Janine’s Hilarious Dirty Dancing Comeback in Abbott Elementary Clip!

For the past couple of weeks, Abbott Elementary has been through a whirlwind, with the recent episodes in the 2025 TV schedule focusing on Ava’s dismissal and its aftermath. An exclusive sneak peek from Season 4, Episode 21 – “Rally” – reveals that Janine, Melissa, Barbara, and Jacob are traveling to the district to reclaim Ava’s position. Prior to this mission, though, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Lisa Ann Walter’s characters couldn’t help but tease Janine about her attire. However, Quinta Brunson’s character delivered a fantastic comeback in response to their jibes, referencing the movie “Dirty Dancing,” which still has me chuckling.

In the video you’re watching, the teachers are seen teasing Janine, one of their usual activities. When Janine arrived at school impeccably dressed in a professional suit, Barbara jokingly commented that her outfit seemed suitable for her “future glamorous child.” Melissa then joined in on the joke-making, focusing particularly on baby references, saying:

You look like you’re about to take me to court for stealing your binky.

Fortunately, Janine handles such playful jibes gracefully. Not long after Barbara and Melissa commented that she resembled a well-dressed youngster, she retaliated humorously by making a clever reference to “Dirty Dancing”, quipping:

I feel the need to kindly remind you to never put Baby in a corner.

Later, noticeably in the footage before, she directly faced the camera, subtly adjusted her head, and offered a sidelong glance. What an exceptional moment for mockumentary history! Make sure to add this to the list of standout quotes from Abbott Elementary without delay.

Additionally, the video made it clear that Janine was prepared to confront the district officials, who will likely attempt to unsettle her during the hearing in an effort to preserve Ava’s position.

Moving forward, the following scene shows Janine explaining that they successfully arranged a meeting for Ava with the district on her behalf. This is something the teachers have been preparing for as well, as Quinta Brunson’s character elaborated in the subsequent interview segment. While Jacob spent four seasons engrossed in “Law and Order”, she was immersed in “Shogun”. In essence, they are now prepared for both court proceedings and potential conflicts.

Excitedly speaking for myself, I can hardly wait to discover how Shōgun re-enters the storyline. Nevertheless, following the successful revival of Dirty Dancing, what truly has me eager is Janine standing up for Ava. If they manage to fulfill all my expectations, there might even be a scene where Janine is lifted in a similar fashion to Dirty Dancing, potentially by the character played by Janelle James, although that’s more of a hopeful fantasy.

Reflecting on the events, I must admit that Melissa and Barbara chose not to join Janine and Jacob for the hearing in the end. All things considered, I’ve got to give props to Ms. Teagues for her witty comeback initially – it was nothing short of entertaining and inspiring.

I’m eagerly anticipating the arguments Janine and her team make for Ava’s case. Additionally, I find myself intrigued by how Gregory will manage as a principal without his teachers present. Although it would be great to see Ava regain her position, I can’t help but ponder about how Gregory might react if she does become principal once more.

It’s great news! We won’t have to wait much longer to enjoy Ava’s wit and perhaps some amusing Dirty Dancing references, as Abbott Elementary is on tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC. If you miss it, don’t worry; you can catch it the next day with a Hulu subscription.
