In Paris, the Cannes festival’s president Thierry Frémaux and Iris Knobloch, as heads, are about to commence the official press conference at 11 a.m., equivalent to 2 a.m. Pacific Time.

You can watch the live stream of the press conference on the Cannes YouTube channel here.

At the outset of the press conference, Knobloch appealed for understanding and inclusivity, noting that for nearly eight decades, the Cannes Film Festival has been a conduit for dialogue with the global community, reflecting a France that is bold, inquisitive, and welcoming. Moreover, she expressed sympathy towards the victims of the L.A. fires, commending the U.S. entertainment industry for its remarkable resilience amidst such tragedy.

Frémaux said the festival screened 2,909 features in its selection process, an all-time record.

Last year, Cannes solidified its status as the premier global film festival, amassing a remarkable 31 Oscar nominations and nine victories, spearheaded by Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winner “Anora,” which garnered five Academy Awards, including best picture. The previous year’s festival also spawned the breakout hits of Emilia Pérez, “The Substance” and animated sensation “Flow,” fueling anticipation for this year’s lineup.

There’s a lot of talk about which movies might win awards this year, with many eagerly waiting for the release of some highly-anticipated films such as Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme” and Richard Linklater’s “Nouvelle Vague.” These two films are frequently mentioned by critics as potential favorites.

On Tuesday, Cannes officially announced what had been a widely speculated festival secret – Tom Cruise is set to grace the Croisette once more for the world premiere of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” This action-packed film will make its out-of-competition debut in Cannes before its global launch by Paramount on May 23.

This year, you can look forward to a good helping of international art-house films, featuring upcoming projects from esteemed directors such as Lazlo Nemes’ “Orphan”, Haifaa Al Mansour’s “Unidentified”, Fatih Akin’s “Amrum”, and Lynne Ramsay’s “Die My Love”.

2025’s Cannes Film Festival will see French actress and Academy Award-winner Juliette Binoche preside over the jury, who are responsible for selecting the Palme d’Or recipients. This year, legendary actor Robert De Niro is set to receive an honorary Palme d’Or for his lifetime achievements during the festival’s opening ceremony.
