Did We Just Watch Two Different Black Mirror Episodes? You Won’t Believe What Happened!

For those who haven’t watched the episode “Bête Noire” from Black Mirror Season 7, beware as there are spoilers ahead if you have a Netflix subscription.

It’s likely that longtime fans, unsurprisingly, found “Black Mirror” Season 7’s portrayal of the Mandela Effect resonating, as it evoked similar feelings during and after viewing the episode. Remarkably, even a devoted fan since the debut of the first season was taken aback by the second installment “Bête Noire,” causing me to genuinely wonder about reality.

Black Mirror Season 7’s ‘Phenomenal’ Episode Has Ignited a Debate Among Viewers and Critics Alike

The question of whether “Bête Noire” will rank among the top episodes of Black Mirror yet is open for discussion, but in my opinion, it showcases an exceptional level of intricacy that surpasses most other episodes, apart from the interactive masterpiece, Bandersnatch, and its multitude of conclusions. Yet, I may not have fully grasped its ingenuity if I hadn’t shared thoughts on it with a coworker shortly after we both watched it.

Netflix Turned Me Into Maria After My Coworker Brought Up The Bernie’s / Barnie’s Scene

One particularly frustrating moment in the episode arose when Maria and one of her coworkers had a heated disagreement over whether a local fried chicken place was named Bernie’s or Barnie’s. I could sense that Maria would be incorrect, given her uneasy tone, and indeed, she was proven wrong as her convincing arguments for the restaurant being called Barnie’s fell apart when she looked it up online and discovered that her colleagues were right all along.

In this episode, there was a flashback scene where viewers could easily spot a cap belonging to Maria’s boyfriend, who previously worked at the restaurant. Curious viewers could rewind the show instantly to read the cap, confirming that its description given by Maria was accurate.

It turns out that my coworker and I had watched different versions of the same episode, and it wasn’t until we clarified this that we were both surprised. Here’s how you could put it: “It turned out that my colleague and I had unknowingly watched two distinct cuts of the same episode! This was quite a shock to us both.

Indeed, although we both saw the same basic episode, there were distinct variations in how certain scenes and revelations were portrayed. It wasn’t merely a matter of varying website visuals or a single shot of a unique hat. Both the opening scene with the hat and the entire office debate over the correct name had two separate filmings. And those are just the differences we’ve discovered so far!

It’s possible that elsewhere, beyond our current knowledge, there could be two more variations of “Bête Noire,” with the chicken restaurants named Bornie’s and Burnie’s instead. While it seems unlikely, it’s certainly not out of the question.

In summary, we noticed only a few variations among the episodes, but we didn’t delve into every tiny detail, either. Therefore, there could potentially be more to uncover. Please remember to select your showtime snacks cautiously when viewing Cristin Milioti in the “U.S.S. Callister” sequel and other episodes, as you might or might not have developed a nut allergy (not symbolic) that you may or may not have had before.
