Netflix has given the go-ahead for Season 2 of Devil May Cry, but fans are nervous due to Netflix’s past unpredictable cancellations. Given the positive feedback from critics and viewers, the new anime series holds great promise and, if given a chance, could develop and improve with each season.

2018 saw Netflix reveal plans for an anime adaptation of “Devil May Cry”, with Adi Shankar at the helm as showrunner. Fans and enthusiasts have eagerly awaited its arrival on screens, and this marks a significant step in fulfilling Shankar’s commitment to uphold Capcom’s esteemed legacy. The initial eight-episode anime has merely touched upon the extensive lore of “Devil May Cry”, with Shankar expressing his ambition for several seasons of the series.

With a tantalizing cliffhanger in place, it’s evident that the storyline is poised to unfold further now that Netflix has given Shankar the green light to continue developing the project. However, impatient fans must exercise their patience until Season 2 makes its debut.

‘Devil May Cry’ Season 1 Ends With a Cliffhanger, Setting up a Potential Season 2

In Season 1, the character of the White Rabbit was introduced as the antagonist, working against Dante. Initially, he appeared as a demon, but as the season unfolded, viewers learned that the White Rabbit wasn’t truly evil; rather, he was a misunderstood figure. He was actually a human who had inadvertently entered the demonic realm during his childhood, and instead of finding understanding among humans, he found acceptance among demons.

Raised among beings who embraced him, he became more devoted to their well-being than humanity, making his actions comprehensible, even if justifying them is a separate issue. In this context, the narrative concludes with the White Rabbit’s demise and Dante successfully averting a demonic incursion, albeit his methods may be questionable.

Just as the final bullet is about to strike the screen, a figure steps out of the darkness, and it turns out to be none other than Vergil, Dante’s wicked counterpart. Up until that point, Dante had assumed his mother and brother were deceased following a demonic assault. Given their opposing allegiances, there’s no question they’ll collide in Season 2. Additionally, details about Vergil’s whereabouts and the transformation that made him who he is will be disclosed. This would pave the way for the creators to incorporate Mundus into the narrative, revealing his part in convincing Vergil to side with the demons.

‘Devil May Cry’ Season 2 Could Introduce New Characters

Some fans might have been disappointed by the relatively small cast of characters in Devil May Cry Season 1 compared to the video game, but from an entertainment perspective, this approach allows the showrunners to gradually expand their universe in subsequent seasons and maintain a sense of progression. Introducing all the popular characters at once could have been overwhelming and detrimental to the coherence of the storyline. In Season 1, we were introduced to Dante, our main character, Mary, Vergil, the White Rabbit, Vice President Baines, Enzo Ferino, Darkcom Soldiers, and many others.

In the upcoming second season, some beloved characters from the series, such as Nicoletta “Nico” Goldstein, Trish, Lucia, Nero, and Mundus, could make an appearance. If the show continues, there’s a strong chance that Mundus will appear due to potential confrontations between Vergil and Dante. With a vast array of characters from five Devil May Cry video games at their disposal, the creators have the opportunity to develop fresh yet authentic storylines for the second season. We can hardly wait to find out which characters they’ll choose to include! Devil May Cry is currently streaming on Netflix.
