Seema Kapoor, the former wife of late actor Om Puri, shared surprising details about their relationship. During a recent discussion, she disclosed that Om Puri was unfaithful to her while she was pregnant, which caused problems in their marriage and eventually led to a divorce. After his child from a previous marriage didn’t survive, Om Puri made an unexpected gesture.

During a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Seema Kapoor, Om Puri’s first wife, disclosed that Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s former wife, Renu Saluja, was knowledgeable about the affair between Om Puri and herself. Yet, it was not only Renu who was kept in the dark; director Sudhir Mishra and others also chose not to inform her, assuming the relationship wasn’t that significant.

It wasn’t until she attended a meeting at Doordarshan that Seema learned about the affair, when Puri sahab informed her by saying, “It seems someone has come into my life.

While Kapoor’s companions persisted in believing that the star of Bajrangi Bhaijaan was merely craving attention, Seema sensed a more serious undertone in his words. During that period, the seasoned actor requested a divorce from Seema.

Afterward, when she encountered him, he remained silent, leading Kapoor to believe that all was well. However, upon recalling that the actor was due to depart for a film shoot in the city soon, she found herself deeply distraught as she unearthed love letters addressed to Nandita Puri among his belongings.

Although the affair happened, I never desired a divorce from him. Instead, I wanted to repair our relationship because I was pregnant at the time. He was aware of my pregnancy, but it made Nandita feel insecure… The situation became too much for me; Puri sahab would frequently drink excessively, and he would receive calls from Nandita while I was present.” She confided this.

That particular evening, she concluded that parting ways with him was the wisest choice. However, Kapoor remained optimistic, believing that things would eventually work out and he’d miss her dearly. She acknowledges now that her judgment about Puri proved incorrect, and it wasn’t an easy period for her.

Seema informed us that she contacted her brother, who is both an actor and a veteran in the industry, asking for tickets back home. Upon learning about Puri’s actions, Annu Kapoor (the star of Vicky Donor) became angry and threatened legal action against him.

After Kapoor arrived home, instead of immediately, Singh Is Kinng star sent her a petition and accused her of infidelity. Later on, she recalled receiving 6 lakh rupees from him as alimony, but declined the 25,000 rupees he later offered following their child’s demise.

In simpler terms, Seema stated that instead of comforting her, Om Puri sent 25,000 rupees through his secretary, which she declined. His secretary then commented, “Your ego is what’s tearing you apart,” but in reality, it was just self-respect he was defending. During his last years, however, Seema explained that she and Om Puri rekindled their relationship when, unexpectedly, he phoned her to express regret for past actions.

Back in 1990, I was blessed to tie the knot with Seema Kapoor, but our journey together lasted only eight precious months. Later on, I found my eternal partner in journalist Nandita Puri. The legendary actor that I am proud to be, breathed his last at the venerable age of 66 in 2017, following a heart attack at his Mumbai home.
