The actress shared thoughts on collaborating with Katherine McPhee, Megan Hilty, Debra Messing, and Jack Davenport in a discussion with People magazine about their TV show.

Huston portrayed the role of Broadway producer Eileen Rand for two seasons on the show ‘Smash’, which ended its run in 2013.

During my time on that television show,” Huston confided to the magazine, “I wasn’t particularly content. Living in New York wasn’t easy for me due to several factors. The winter was harsh and I felt undervalued in my role. I struggled with feelings of depression because of it. Honestly, it was quite a struggle; I didn’t enjoy the experience much.

As I followed the exciting twists and turns of Hustle, I couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of empathy as I too grieved the loss of my partner of 16 years, Robert Graham, who passed away in 2008. His memory was still fresh in my heart during those television moments.

“Bob was very special and very irreplaceable,” she said. “A lot’s gone on since Bob died.”

Huston’s remarks were made during the run of a Broadway adaptation that premiered on Thursday. Robert Greenblatt, Neil Meron, and Steven Spielberg are the main producers, with Susan Stroman, a five-time Tony Award winner for “The Producers,” directing the production.

This Broadway production features Robyn Hurder, Brooks Ashmanskas, Krysta Rodriguez, John Behlmann, Kristine Nielsen, Caroline Bowman, Jacqueline B. Arnold, Bella Coppola, and Casey Garvin as its stars. The music is penned by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who also wrote numerous songs for the TV show, such as “Let Me Be Your Star” and “Don’t Forget Me,” along with fresh compositions. Joshua Bergasse, who was the choreographer for the television series, comes back to choreograph this stage production.

For quite some time now, the idea of bringing the Broadway show to fruition has been in the pipeline. Discussions started back in 2015 after a charity benefit concert version of Bombshell, which was a one-night event. It was initially slated for Broadway in 2020, but was postponed. Last summer, they conducted a developmental workshop on the show.

Facing immense pressure, the acclaimed Broadway actress Ivy Lynn triggers a chain of humorous mishaps and unexpected twists that leaves a puzzled director, an anxious producer, two frustrated writers, a hopeful understudy, and the entire cast in disarray. However, despite these complications, the show must go on as planned.
