The ruthless, cold-hearted nature required to brandish the Necrosword and embark on a rampage of divine killing pales in comparison to the most embarrassing wedgie ever experienced and the mortifying shame that follows.
After taking up the role of Gorr the God Butcher in Taika Waititi’s upcoming movie, Thor: Love and Thunder (airing on SYFY this weekend), actor Christian Bale expressed worries regarding the villain’s attire—specifically, its scarcity.

Christian Bale shares his biggest concern with playing Gorr in Thor: Love and Thunder

In a 2022 interview with GamesRadar, Bale commented, “I had an inkling about his role, given the name, but I blundered by searching him up online. To my dismay, [in the comics] he’s often depicted in a loincloth. I thought, ‘They’ve got the wrong guy for that!’ However, Taika soon quashed any thoughts of running around like that. Yet, I couldn’t help but imagine what he could achieve with this role in front of a green screen – he could wear whatever he desires later.
As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “Just like some folks pointed out, The Wrap did mention something comparable about Gorr’s bulky physique from the comics. You see, I was recently working on another project where my character was quite lean. I jokingly said, ‘Hey, no one wants to see me in a thong!’ It wouldn’t make sense to hit the gym hard because there’s just no way to outmuscle Chris [Hemsworth].
It was fortunate for Bale that his performance of the character was well-received, earning praise as a standout aspect of the film and even being compared favorably to Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight.
In the 2013 issue of Thor: God of Thunder, Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic introduced the character Gorr. Dismayed by the gods’ apparent disregard for universal suffering, this character chooses to eliminate all deities using the Necrosword, a weapon forged by Knull (not mentioned in the Marvel Cinatic Universe film). The character’s distinctive appearance, often featuring a loincloth-like shroud, is a signature part of his design. However, to avoid looking too ridiculous in live-action, Gorr’s wardrobe was eventually redesigned to resemble an Ancient Roman toga.
In an interview with The Credits, costume designer Mayes C. Rubeo revealed that there were numerous discussions about Gorr, including ones between me and Taika Waititi. We created countless sketches for Gorr’s outfit, but eventually, Taika opted for a white design to depict him as ancient and archaic. Since Gorr had lost his daughter, the director wanted to portray his sorrow through the absence of color in his life. This was a transformation reflecting the grey area many people experience when they’re going through intense pain in their lives, where vibrant colors no longer exist. Christian Bale wholeheartedly took on this concept.
