Warner Bros.‘ remake of The Bodyguard has found its director.
Sam Wrench, the director of last year’s concert special, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” has been linked to a remake of the classic 1992 film in which Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner played leading roles.
In this version, the sentence is made more conversational by using “linked” instead of “attached” and “classic” to describe the original film.
Jonathan Abrams, who was responsible for the Clint Eastwood-directed “Juror #2” last year, is currently working on the script. Previously, Matthew Lopez had written a draft for the remake that has been under development since 2011, going through different phases.
The story, titled The Bodyguard, revolves around a retired Secret Service officer (played by Costner), who takes up the task of safeguarding a renowned figure (Houston) in the limelight, due to a persistent threat from a stalker.
Deadline was first to report on the involvement of Wrench and Abrams.
More to come.
