Joe Keery Explained Why He’s ‘Already’ ‘Nostalgic’ For Stranger Things While Recalling His Last Day Of Work, And I’m Feeling All The Feels

The much-anticipated fifth and concluding season of “Stranger Things” is scheduled for broadcast in the 2025 television lineup, following its completion in December 2024. After spending nearly a decade working on and off set, it’s not surprising that the cast and crew felt quite emotional about drawing this significant chapter to a close. Actors Millie Bobby Brown, Sadie Sink, Finn Wolfhard, and most recently Joe Keery have shared their feelings about filming those final days, reflecting on the journey they’ve been part of.

Keery is primarily recognized for portraying the beloved Steve Harrington from “Stranger Things”. Fans are hopeful that this character will survive the final season, despite a widely-spread theory suggesting otherwise. In a recent interview with “CBS Mornings”, he spoke about saying goodbye to “Stranger Things” and the iconic role that catapulted his career to new heights. He shared his feelings on the subject as follows:

When I received my final schedule, I recall thinking, ‘Alright, and that’s the end.’ And I thought, ‘Oh, that’s right, this is indeed the end.’ It seemed fine until my last day at work. However, it was quite cathartic, it was truly a great experience.

It appears that the sentiment among the entire cast is one of uncertainty, as if they won’t consider it finished until the final day of production. This perspective was also echoed by Brown in her farewell message to the show, and back in March 2024, she mentioned that she was making an effort not to think about what that last day would be like when they were just beginning filming.

I’m really looking forward to the last season of the show, and it’s already making me feel quite emotional. It’s a completely different feeling, but I can certainly relate to the younger actors who have essentially grown up while working on this series.

Even though Keery commenced the series during his twenties, he cherishes unique recollections from each day on set. Now, he reflects on the whole experience with awe, expressing his thoughts as: “I can’t believe I was part of this amazing journey.

I definitely already am nostalgic for it.

As someone deeply invested in the world of cinema, I can’t help but empathize with the cast of Stranger Things, who’ve poured a decade into this project. Leaving a set that feels like a second home is never easy, especially after the trials and tribulations they’ve faced during filming. It wasn’t just about navigating the chilling storyline or the emotional turmoil it brought; they also battled production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and later strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). It’s a testament to their dedication and resilience, making their departures all the more poignant.

Nevertheless, Anthony Mason of CBS Morning Show didn’t hesitate to inquire about Keery’s apparent nostalgia for a recent event. The actor from Marmalade remained unyielding, clarifying his stance through an explanation:

Absolutely, it consumes every inch of your existence. To be honest, it’s been an incredible journey filled with unforgettable moments shared with so many wonderful individuals. We’re definitely going to feel the void.

Working on “Stranger Things” wasn’t simply another job for Keery and the cast. Unlike constantly working together during filming for nearly a decade, now they seldom run into each other.

Fortunately, the saga of Stranger Things doesn’t end just yet for Keery and his co-stars, as they’ll need to continue promoting the upcoming final season. Fingers crossed that Netflix reveals its release date soon!

Until then, feel free to watch the first four seasons of “Stranger Things” if you have an active Netflix membership. I’ve begun my rewatch to refresh my memory about the terrors Vecna has brought upon Hawkins, so I’ll be ready when the last season is released.
