In his 2021 documentary titled “Val“, Kilmer expresses that he found the script by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr. to be rather foolish. Additionally, his personal principles contributed to his hesitance. He openly acknowledges his aversion to warfare, suggesting that even with contractual commitments to the studio, he might have declined the role, but felt compelled to sign due to these obligations.
