At long last, Bungie has showcased the gameplay for the comeback of Marathon. Moreover, they announced that this tactical shooter is set to debut on September 23rd.
In the first trailer, they demonstrated the thrilling combat experience in player-versus-player matches and showcased various weapons for players. Additionally, the agile movements of characters, or runners, were highlighted. Bungie also announced that at launch, there will be six distinct character classes to choose from.
The studio’s debut project, titled “Marathon,” marks a departure from the Destiny 2 series. In the ’90s, the creators behind Halo gained recognition for their Marathon trilogy, infusing science fiction components into other series such as Halo and Destiny.
As an avid enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating that Marathon lives up to its commitment of delivering tight, accurate gunplay, numerous replay opportunities, and a fair monetization model. This is particularly significant for those who feel that Destiny 2 has taken a backseat in favor of this fresh IP.
If you’re eager to start playing Marathon ahead of time, Bungie has announced that a Closed Alpha testing phase will be happening soon. They recommend players to sign up on the official Marathon Discord channel for updates about this testing period over the next few days.
Despite the crowded market for PvP shooters and recent failures such as Concord, Bungie’s reputation and loyal fanbase who appreciate top-tier gunplay could potentially make Marathon a success.
Regarding the cost, it’s unclear if the game Marathon will be a free-to-play option or if players will need to pay for the game upfront. However, we likely won’t have to wait much longer as Bungie is expected to disclose the pricing information before the launch of Marathon.
