Oblivion Fan Demakes The Game, Turning The Elder Scrolls 4 Into A Medieval Boomer Shooter

Summary

  • One fan, tired of waiting for the rumoured remake, has turned Oblivion into a boomer shooter.
  • They shared a brief 40-second clip where they carve through pixelated Adoring Fans and even the Emperor.
  • However, it’s not a playable mod. The HUD was added in post, and it only appears to feature this one level.

Despite constantly chasing rumors about Oblivion and anticipating the leaked remake that was expected last week, or possibly in May or June (given the uncertainty, it’s not surprising the community is starting to question its existence), one enthusiast has been re-creating the original game into a boomer shooter format.

User Sloth_Johnson shared a short 40-second video on r/Oblivion, highlighting their creative interpretation of Cyrodiil. In the clip, they navigate through an under-resourced Imperial structure and slash through pixelated admirers who echoed “By Azurah!” in unison. As expected, the Emperor meets his end, but in this case, it’s the player who beheads them (during a somewhat eerie speech), rather than a robed Mythic Dawn cultist.

In a unique twist, there’s also a muscular city guard, bare-chested and wearing a shoulder plate, shouting, “You broke the law!” as he launches explosive fireballs using a shotgun.

This video offers an entertaining twist on a traditional Role-Playing Game (RPG), combining elements of Doom and Wolfenstein-style gameplay. However, you shouldn’t anticipate its release in the near future.

“I Would Actually Play The Hell Out Of This”: Don’t Hold Your Breath

It isn’t a playable mod, just a showcase of what a boomer shooter spin on Oblivion could look like.

What we witnessed appeared to be just one scene, a quick skirmish that lasted barely over a minute. However, it’s far from complete, as additional elements like the HUD are being added later on. Furthermore, if this was a fully operational mod, u/Sloth_Johnson wouldn’t make it public due to the use of Bethesda assets and related issues.

u/Sloth_Johnson made their Oblivion demake with the Easy FPS Editor (EFPSE).

Fans propose that it could work as a mod for Doom, provided it’s not commercialized (since there are numerous fan-created add-ons for games like The Simpsons, Sonic, Alien, Halo, and Star Wars readily accessible). Some have urged u/Sloth_Johnson to share private Google Drive links, distributing the Oblivion demake discreetly in a digital corner to evade Bethesda’s scrutiny.

It’s worth noting that Organic Superlube wasn’t the only one to adapt The Elder Scrolls series into a first-person shooter style game and stop there. In 2016, they shared a short teaser on YouTube, demonstrating Daggerfall reimagined within Doom. They mentioned in the description that they might revisit it someday. However, ten years later, it appears that they haven’t returned to this project.
