First Look at Johnny Depp in Penélope Cruz Feature ‘Day Drinker’ Unveiled

After being away from Hollywood filming for quite some time, Johnny Depp has returned to set for a new project titled “Day Drinker”, and Lionsgate has shared a sneak peek of Depp on set.

Furthermore, it was disclosed that Manu Rios, Aron Piper, Juan Diego Botto, and Anika Boyle are set to star alongside Penélope Cruz in the currently filming thriller directed by Marc Webb, which is being produced in Spain.

Madelyn Cline is also featured in the movie, and this role could mark a possible return to Hollywood for Depp following his legal issues with ex-wife Amber Heard and a court decision in the U.K. that led Warner Bros. to drop him from the Fantastic Beasts series back in 2020.

More recently, Depp has been seen in films like “Jeanne du Barry”, a French historical drama, and “Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness”, which he directed. However, unlike “Day Drinker”, these productions were not commercial ventures but rather projects supported by European funding.

In a recent project, Rios and Piper shared screen time on Netflix’s show “Elite,” whereas Boyle portrayed Alice Creel in the live theater adaptation of “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” on the West End stage.

Diego Botto has acted in films such as “The Room Next Door”, “En Los Margenes” (On the Fringe), and “The Suicide Squad”. In the movie “Day Drinker”, a character played by Madelyn Cline who works as a bartender on a private yacht meets a secretive passenger named Kelly, portrayed by Johnny Depp. As they interact, they unwittingly become involved with a shady individual, played by Penélope Cruz, and their lives become intertwined in ways that were not anticipated by anyone.

Previously, Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz shared the screen in movies like “Blow”, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”, and “Murder on the Orient Express”. The film “Day Drinker” is being produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee from Thunder Road, along with Adam Kolbrenner and Zach Dean who also penned the initial script. Additionally, 30WEST is serving as executive producers.
