The Last of Us

In last night’s premiere on HBO, the highly anticipated return of “The Last of Us” sparked conversations online about Kaitlyn Dever’s character, Abby. First appearing in the sequel to the popular video game in 2020, Abby is a muscular soldier on a quest for vengeance. Her character is well-known for her impressive fighting skills. However, Dever appears significantly smaller compared to her on-screen character, leading some fans to question the casting decision following Episode 1, titled “Future Days.

A significant portion of discussions today about X revolves around The Last of Us Season 2, particularly focusing on aesthetic modifications. User @TheeMagda inquired, “How on earth are you going to cast the role of Abby Anderson for The Last of Us and not choose a woman with arms as powerful as a heavy-duty truck?” Meanwhile, user @girl_lestat commented:

I find it uncomfortable that Abby doesn’t have a bulky build, and I don’t have any other thoughts on The Last of Us for now.

User @Evansane_ attempted to calm things down by pointing out that Abby is a fictional character played by actress Kaitlyn Dever, but user @KHomatose and others were not convinced. They expressed dissatisfaction with the casting of Abby in The Last of Us season 2, suggesting that a more muscular actor could have been chosen instead. User @daynabreezy also shared their thoughts on the matter.

While I believe the actress portraying Abby in The Last of Us is excellent, it’s disheartening for me personally that they didn’t cast someone who fits the stereotype of ‘she’s beautiful, but don’t underestimate her.’

More to come…
