In the most recent development regarding Saif Ali Khan‘s alleged attack case, the chargesheet has disclosed that the fingerprint evidence gathered inside the actor’s Mumbai home did not align with the suspect Shariful Islam. It appears that out of about 20 samples sent to the State CID’s Fingerprint Bureau for comparison, only one did not show a match.
As per a report by Mid-day, out of the 20 fingerprint samples taken from different areas of the crime scene, they could not be identified clearly or used for comparison in forensics.
The report continued by noting that seven impressions appeared on the black bathroom door, two on the sliding door in the bedroom, and two on the kitchen cupboard door. Importantly, these prints did not match those of the suspect Shahid Shabbir Sayyed or the arrested individual Shariful Islam Shehzad.
In simpler terms, neither the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) nor the Automated Multi-Modal Biometric Identification System (AMBIS) found a match with any fingerprints from individuals who have previously been arrested or convicted, when comparing them to the databases maintained by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and the Maharashtra Fingerprint Bureau.
Additionally, the report noted that out of the 10 prints found – 5 fingerprints and 1 palm print from the black bathroom door, 1 from a wooden door, and 3 from the bathroom’s marble and wall – didn’t provide enough clear ridge details to be useful for comparison or practical purposes.
As a diligent follower of facts, I must bring to light an additional report by the CID that substantiates a left palm print discovered on the wooden door of the 8th-floor staircase, which matches the accused. Regrettably, two other prints found on the 9th floor’s wooden door were not suitable for analysis due to insufficient ridge detail.
The chargesheet contains a report from the fingerprint bureau, which corroborates that the prints match those of Khan’s two household employees – Nilesh Hari Gawade and Hemlal Nyaupane.
Or
The chargesheet includes a report from the fingerprint bureau that shows a match with the prints of Khan’s domestic staff members, specifically Nilesh Hari Gawade and Hemlal Nyaupane.
Both sentences convey the same information in a more natural and easy-to-read manner than the original sentence.
Simultaneously, even though there’s a discrepancy in fingerprints, the police believe they possess substantial proof against the suspect. This evidence includes CCTV footage identifying him based on facial recognition, identification by one of Khan’s household staff, and cell tower data indicating he was in the building on the day of the incident.
The police have retrieved the garments, which it’s claimed the suspect was wearing during the occurrence. Meanwhile, Shariful has made an appeal for bail, and the case is set to be addressed by the Sessions Court on April 17th.
