The unfortunate deaths of and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, made headlines in February, as the circumstances surrounding their passing remained shrouded in mystery, much like the plots of some Hackman films. However, it wasn’t until several days had passed that the truth emerged: Arakawa died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS), and it appears Hackman followed suit a few days later. A recent report has shed light on why their deaths were seemingly unavoidable, as their property was reportedly a breeding ground for the virus that caused Arakawa’s demise.
According to CNN’s latest report, tests conducted by New Mexico’s public health department last month suggested an alarming discovery at the actor’s home: it was reportedly infested with deceased rodents. Upon inspecting the property, the department uncovered signs of rodents in several areas, including three garages, two casitas, and three sheds. Remarkably, not only were live and dead rodents found in three detached garages, but also a nest.
The report went on to mention that the couple’s vehicles exhibited signs of infestation, such as droppings, nests, and live pests being spotted in close proximity. Additionally, the property had live traps set up, indicating that Awakara was conscious of the issue and trying to deal with it through pest control. However, the report noted that while the main house showed “low-risk” signs of activity, all the connected and neighboring buildings were simple for rodents to access.
Gene Hackman’s Autopsy Report Has Not Been Revealed at the Family’s Request
Initially, Gene Hackman’s death and the ensuing rumors were highly public topics. However, his estate, along with Arakawa’s, requested that all autopsy reports and bodycam footage from the first responders on the scene be kept confidential from the public. This request was honored by a judge in mid-March, aligning with the family’s desire for privacy. At the time, a representative for the estate stated that the couple highly valued their privacy and would not have wanted this information to be made public.
Given the significant public profile of the deceased individuals and their strong preference for privacy while they were alive, the appointed representative aims to maintain the Hackman family’s privacy posthumously, mirroring the privacy they sought during their lives. It is essential that the family be allowed to mourn undisturbed, and the court should uphold this right.
The fact that the request and its fulfillment weren’t unexpected is clear. Given the perpetual public scrutiny surrounding celebrities’ private lives and deaths, it’s no surprise that Hackman, who opted to live the last two decades in relative isolation, valued his privacy immensely. The tragic circumstances surrounding the couple’s demise undoubtedly left many of the actor’s fans heartbroken, but also sparked curiosity about the events leading to his death. As the reasons came to light, there was no compelling reason for anyone to witness footage from inside the home on discovery of the bodies, and this is a point that should be respected.
