Oblivion Fans Are Split On Whether The Remaster Looks Better Or Worse

Summary

  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster screenshots leaked earlier today, letting us see what the game will look like for the first time.
  • We only have a handful of screenshots, but some fans are already claiming that the remaster looks worse than the original.
  • While you can’t argue the detail is better, a lot of people don’t tlike the “lack of color” in the remaster.

Today, we had our initial glimpse at the forthcoming Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remaster, thanks to a blunder from developer Virtuos. They inadvertently left access to a folder brimming with screenshots open for fans, and as a result, these images have been widely circulated. Now, we have a clearer picture of what the game will be like when it’s released.

Using a limited number of screenshots, we can already form a clear impression. Among these are the iconic initial shot of the ruins outside the sewers, images of an Oblivion gate, various towns, a goblin attack, and some interior shots of houses. Although our resources are scarce, it seems sufficient for certain individuals to express strong disapproval towards the aesthetic of this Oblivion remaster.

Oblivion Fans Are Split On Whether The Remaster Looks Better Or Worse

Among the more outspoken enthusiasts was Twitter user Micky D, who urged Bethesda to cease producing Oblivion’s brown tones and instead focus on The Elder Scrolls 6. In a subsequent tweet, they articulated their concern that the “absence of vibrancy” in these snapshots has left them uncertain about the game as a whole, with many sharing similar reservations.

A different Twitter user named Minna believes the remaster appears significantly less appealing, expressing concerns over the scarcity of greenery depicted in these images compared to the original version. In contrast, another user referred to as CapCorgi argues that Bethesda has applied a “retro filter” to Oblivion, alluding to those peculiar games from the late 2000s that were characterized by their yellowish hue.

It’s good news! The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered might be available for us to experience its updated graphics as soon as next week, if recent rumors are true. However, keep in mind that these reports have been circulating for a while now, so it’s better not to set your expectations too high just yet.
