Once upon a time, numerous games were exclusively available on consoles, generating envy among PC gamers worldwide. However, for the majority of these coveted titles, those days have passed. Today, we’ll explore the top console-exclusive video games that made their way onto personal computers.

Previously, games like God of War, Uncharted, Horizon, Death Stranding, Halo, The Last of Us were console exclusives, only playable on either Xbox or PlayStation. Although labeled as an action RPG, it’s more accurately described as an engaging open-world action-adventure game that combines elements such as crafting, questing, platforming, and outstanding combat. The massive machines you encounter can be thought of as mini-boss battles where your goal is to exploit every resource at hand and focus on vulnerable spots. Playing Horizon games is a thrilling experience.

Horizon: Zero Dawn debuted for PC in 2020, three years following its exclusive launch on PlayStation 4. More recently, an upgraded version was also released. The PC edition includes The Frozen Wilds expansion and all additional content. Similarly, the complete edition of the sequel, Forbidden West, became accessible on personal computers about two years after its initial release on PlayStation 4 and 5.

Modern-time Indiana Jones

Although the initial three Uncharted games aren’t purchasable on PC (however, PS Plus Premium users can stream them through their computers via the service), it’s worth noting that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and its separate expansion, The Lost Legacy, made their way onto this platform. Throughout the game, you’ll often find yourself competing against pirates, mercenaries, soldiers, and many others, all vying to claim treasures first. The Uncharted series combines elements of cinematic platforming, cover-based third-person shooting, stealth, and puzzle solving, providing a balanced, entertaining gaming experience, along with enhanced visuals for good measure. However, there’s no multiplayer mode available on the PC version.

It’s ancient god killin’ time

Fans of PlayStation are familiar with Kratos, the Spartan warrior who was deceived by Ares, the Greek god of war. This sets him on a vengeful journey where he massacres countless adversaries and eventually brings down the ancient Greek pantheon, even defeating Zeus himself.

It’s worth noting that PC gamers have missed out on the Greek chapters of Kratos’ epic journey (from God of War I to III and several spin-offs). However, they can join the adventure in the Norse-themed installments, such as 2018’s God of War and the upcoming God of War Ragnarök. These newer games are set on PC in 2024.

The plot remains much the same: you assume the role of Kratos, undertake a quest involving Scandinavian deities, and engage an array of mythical adversaries. In this iteration, though, you wield a mystical battle axe rather than the signature double-chained blades. There are puzzles to solve, RPG elements have been added, and overall, the new God of War games offer a slightly different experience compared to their predecessors – a change that is generally welcomed, don’t you agree?

It seems that Kratos’ upcoming journey may involve him encountering yet another divine pantheon, possibly leading to more bloodshed. There’s a possibility that future installments could also make their way onto PC platforms.

But wait, there’s more!

Here are three well-known franchises that have recently been adapted for personal computer use, and there are many more like them. In this discussion, we’ll cover a couple.

Initially, Halo: Combat Evolved (released in 2001), which is now renowned for its sci-fi first-person shooter genre, was initially designed for PC gaming and as a third-person shooter. However, things took an unexpected turn, and it became exclusive to Xbox consoles, eventually finding its way onto personal computers too. Today, it’s one of the most significant military sci-fi franchises globally and has had a substantial impact on the development of first-person shooters.

Just wondering if there’s more to discuss? Absolutely! Metal Gear Solid is indeed one of the esteemed franchises that has found its home not only on consoles but also on platforms like Windows. These stealth games, recognized for their memorable characters, narrative elements, and gameplay features, have been a part of the PC gaming landscape for quite some time now. In fact, even the early releases from the late ’80s and early ’90s are available on these platforms as well.

Originally created by the Grand Theft Auto team, the Red Dead Redemption series, known for its cult-classic western style, has now made its way onto PC platforms as well. Interestingly, the second part was introduced on PC first, while the initial installment was recently released for personal computers.
