Gayle King Responds to “Haters” Questioning Blue Origin Flight: “I Wish People Would Do More Due Diligence”

Gayle King expresses her satisfaction at responding to those who’ve been criticizing the all-woman space mission by Blue Origin.

In a Tuesday chat with Extra, one of the CBS Morning hosts expressed that it’s beneficial to discuss openly the controversy that has arisen following doubts about the purpose of the expedition.

Initially, I was among those who pondered, ‘Why are such vast resources being invested in space exploration when there’s so much unattended business on Earth?’ However, my viewpoint changed after gaining knowledge about Blue Origin’s endeavors. This encompasses not only managing waste but also finding methods to launch it into space, with the aim of improving our planet Earth.

King stated this. She further mentioned that she acquired her new perspective upon understanding “what Blue Origin does.

King went on to express his hope that people would be more thorough in their investigations,” he said, followed by a defense against the critics. “I’d like to ask, have any of you traveled to space? Visit Blue Origin and witness their operations before you claim this is wrong.

On April 14th, a group consisting of Katy Perry, Lauren Sanchez (fiancée of Jeff Bezos), film producer Kerianne Flynn, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and research scientist Amanda Nguyen embarked on a 10-minute space journey, making them the first all-female crew for Blue Origin. Following the announcement of this venture, Olivia Munn expressed skepticism about its purpose and labeled it “gluttonous,” which sparked a series of criticisms regarding the trip.

The monarch acknowledged the financial worries surrounding the trip, conceding that it was costly, but emphasized that with increased participation, “it doesn’t have to be that expensive.” Additionally, she countered criticism labeling their journey as a mere “ride,” a term Munn employed during her interview on Today With Jenna & Friends, where she raised questions about the necessity of the expedition.

King expressed his discomfort with people referring to it as “a ride.” He pointed out that when a man or male astronaut goes to space, they don’t say they took a ride. Instead, he feels this term is somewhat disregardful of the mission’s importance and the effort put in by Blue Origin.

Indeed, King expressed that the voyage with Blue Origin has sparked a sense of inspiration among “young girls specifically,” and at the same time, it gives young boys a glimpse into the capabilities of women and young girls.

King noted that the Blue Origin trip had particularly inspired young girls, while also providing young boys with a view into what girls and young women can accomplish.

In the face of criticism, the TV figure conceded to the “grumpy New Englanders” and “naysayers” voicing their opinions on the project. However, they emphasized: “I won’t allow people to rob me of my happiness or diminish the pride we felt for our achievement that day — I simply refuse to let it affect me.
