Production for Season 3 of “House of the Dragon” is underway, and following a contentious sequel, viewers are eager to discover what unfolds next in this upcoming chapter. The series delves into the rich tapestry of Targaryen history, portraying them during their prosperous years and the civil war that ultimately brought about the decline of the powerful house. Intriguingly, the on-screen presentation of Targaryen history, as depicted in “House of the Dragon,” deviates significantly from the complex narrative found in George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood.
Many scenes in the TV show are inadvertently humorous because they often result in significant miscommunications between the Greens and the Blacks, leading to chaotic situations involving characters like Daemon and Aemond. These characters’ actions frequently caused mischief, not only for themselves but also for others, resulting in unintentional humor that left viewers grinning, even during what could be serious or tragic events on screen.
Rhaenyra Realizes That Damon Ordered Blood and Cheese
Season 2, Episode 2, “Rhaenyra the Cruel”
However, it was never her intention to murder innocent babies for a claim to the throne. But alas, Blood and Cheese’s sinister scheme unfolded, and young Jaehaerys’s demise was falsely attributed to Rhaenyra. In disbelief, even her own advisors did not trust her when she asserted her innocence, but the truth wasn’t far off.
In a moment of unintended humor, Rhaenyra spoke her lines, looking towards Daemon in anticipation of his agreement. However, when she noticed him sitting unusually still, she suddenly understood that he had given the order for an assassination. As viewers watched, they could see the gears turning in Rhaenyra’s mind as she pieced together the truth – Daemon wasn’t acting on her behalf, but believed he was entitled to the Iron Throne himself. Despite the gravity of the situation, Rhaenyra’s shocked expression was amusing.
Rhaenys Puts Daemon In His Place When He Tries to Command Her
Season 2, Episode 1, “A Son for a Son”
In the second season of the series, his claim to rule was fragile because he aimed to assume the throne as king. Later, when she searched for Lucerys’ remains, Daemon exhibited a regal demeanor and began giving orders without concern, suggesting he considered himself the ruler. Yet, Rhaenys made it clear that he was merely the consort of the true queen, who was Rhaenyra, never allowing him to forget his secondary position.
After a tough recon mission, Daemon urged Rhaenys to climb aboard Meleys once more and join him in the assault against Vhagar and Aemond. However, when she hesitated, he asserted it as an order. In her unique way, Rhaenys retorted, “‘If only you were a king,’” before departing, which left Daemon embarrassed and speechless when confronted with his situation, a spectacle that was quite amusing to observe.
Daemon Asks Laena If Rhaenyra’s Sons Resemble Harwin Strong
Season 1, Episode 6, “The Princess and the Queen”
As a film enthusiast, I couldn’t help but notice Daemon’s hidden emotions towards Rhaenyra in this episode. While Daemon may have tied the knot with Laena, his sulky reaction to her news about Rhaenyra’s newborn son hinted at feelings that were far from married bliss. Intriguingly, he seemed to imply that the child resembled none other than the City Watch Commander, a subtle nod towards his unspoken affection for Rhaenyra.
It was entertaining to watch Daemon feel envious as Ser Harwin Strong, the one Rhaenyra deeply loved, came into the picture. He wasn’t pleased that he hadn’t wed Rhaenyra himself, and it irked him to see her having children with others. This childish behavior from Daemon was quite amusing, and such immaturity seemed out of place for a man of his age.
The Green Council Rejects Alicent As Regent
Season 2, Episode 5, “Regent”
Initially, this situation seemed favorable for Alicent, but it ended up humbling her significantly following the turmoil she instigated. It was under her influence that Aegon ascended to the Iron Throne, primarily due to his male lineage contrasting Rhaenyra’s. However, the plan backfired on Alicent when the Green Council, which she had gathered, unexpectedly turned against her and betrayed her, much like a venomous snake, when she proposed to serve as Regent during Aegon’s absence.
In this scenario, various individuals, including Criston Cole and Larys, turned against Alicent, resulting in her downfall within the court. It felt gratifying to witness her transformation into a victim, given that she was herself a monster who had orchestrated such an environment. All of them backed Aemond’s bid for Regency because he was a man, which she hadn’t anticipated would eventually lead to her experiencing the oppressive effects of the misguided patriarchy she had fostered.
Aemond’s Reaction After Killing Lucerys Was Unexpected
Season 1, Episode 10, “The Black Queen”
In contrast to what one might expect, the events that unfolded in House of the Dragon were depicted as an unintended tragedy rather than a deliberate act. Aemond, who had taken possession of Vhagar, was portrayed as being unable to master the dragon, leading directly to Lucerys’ demise.
Based on Aemond’s shocked and remorseful response following Lucerys’ disappearance, it seemed clear that his intention was not to kill Lucerys, but rather to frighten him. Unfortunately, he was unable to prevent Vhagar from attacking both Lucerys and his dragon, and there was a certain dark irony in the fact that the Dance of the Dragons began due to Aemond’s thoughtless mistake. Despite this, he never intended for it to happen, but could never admit to that fact.
Helaena Walks In On Alicent And Criston Cole
Season 2, Episode 1, “A Son for a Son”
In the opening of Season 2, the first episode was brimming with mystery and gruesome scenes, most notably Daemon dispatching Blood and Cheese to Helaena’s room as a vengeful act for the death of Lucerys. This led to a shocking sequence where, upon attempting to assassinate Jaehaerys, the assassins encountered Helaena. Traumatized by what she had just seen, Helaena took her other child and fled to her mother’s chambers. Interestingly, Alicent was not spending that night all alone.
In an amusing turn of events, Helaena unexpectedly found Alicent with Criston Cole. What added to the humor was that Queen Alicent appeared unfazed by her mother’s actions. Later, when Alicent attempted to discuss it, Helaena showed no interest in hearing justifications, making everything seem insignificant in Helaena’s life. Sadly, Helaena experienced trauma not just once, but twice that very night.
Aegon And Otto’s Conversation About Hanging the Rat Catchers Was Deeply Entertaining
Season 2, Episode 2, “Rhaenyra The Cruel”
Upon crowning Aegon on the Iron Throne, I found myself confronted with an unsettling realization – a grave error had been committed. Aegon, cruel, frivolous, vain, and utterly inept, reveled in his regal power, wielding it mercilessly. The death of Jaehaerys, unfortunately, signaled the dissolution of my meticulously crafted strategy for public sympathy. Instead of fostering compassion, Aegon indiscriminately hanged every ratcatcher in the realm, regardless of guilt or innocence.
On a surprising occasion, spectators witnessed Otto’s anger boiling over, as he questioned Aegon harshly about the justification for executing hundreds of harmless ratcatchers. In response, Aegon retorted sarcastically, suggesting that while many innocents were hanged, it prevented the guilty from escaping punishment. As always, Aegon displayed his arrogance and vanity, creating an amusing contrast with Otto’s growing irritation over how Aegon had successfully turned the entire kingdom against them through his questionable actions.
Aemond Tries to Speak to Aegon In High Valyrian
Season 2, Episode 4, “The Red Dragon and the Gold”
Every day, the tension between Aegon and Aemond intensified, yet viewers were given a humorous moment showcasing their sibling dynamic. This particular scene revealed that Aegon might not be suited for the role of king when he confronted Aemond about alleged backstabbing. In response, Aemond spoke to him in High Valyrian, pointing out that while Aegon was enjoying a luxurious lifestyle with his companions on the Kingsguard and bestowing titles upon himself, Aemond had been actively leading.
Later on, Aegon was prompted to share his strategies, if any improved ones were available, and Aemond carried out this action in High Valyrian intentionally. He understood that his brother had neglected learning the language, and it served as a means for him to belittle Aegon for not being familiar with their customs. Aegon’s response added humor to the exchange, as he replied in rudimentary Valyrian, expressing his desire to “initiate a conflict.
Rhaenyra Puts Lord Dondarrion In His Place For Courting Her
Season 1, Episode 4, “King of the Narrow Sea”
In a lively and fearless manner, Princess Rhaenyra often displayed her sharp wit. When it came time for her to wed, things became quite entertaining indeed. With her position as the realms’ royalty, many sought her hand in marriage. However, she set boundaries when Lord Dondarrion attempted to propose. His age exceeding that of Viserys made such a proposal improper and unacceptable.
Rhaenyra tactfully reprimanded him when he mentioned her great-grandmother’s beauty, Alysanne Targaryen. She aimed to express that it was unusual for someone as young as herself to be considered for marriage, which was not well-received by some, but her quick wit and sarcasm kept viewers engaged.
Daemon Has Vaemond’s Head For Insulting Rhaenyra
Season 1, Episode 8, “The Lord of the Tides”
In an unexpected twist, the most gruesome incident on the show ‘House of the Dragon’ turned out to be its funniest, with Daemon being the catalyst. Vaemond Velaryon challenged Lucerys’ right to become Lord of the Tides, as he was against the title passing to a bastard. A secretive matter in the realm, Vaemond publicly labeled Rhaenyra as a harlot and hurled insults at her in front of the entire court.
Instead of Viserys about to cut out Vaemond’s tongue, it was Daemon who arrived first. In a sudden turn of events, he swiftly beheaded Vaemond, leaving his tongue intact in the process. To add an eerie humor, Daemon addressed the lifeless body, saying it could keep its tongue. This gruesome act, despite being unexpected and shocking, showcased Daemon’s unique style, even during his assassinations of the noble class.
