‘Pacific Rim’ Series Lands at Amazon

Amazon MGM Studios is now home to the acclaimed “Pacific Rim” series from Legendary. These two studios will collaborate on adapting this intellectual property (with Legendary taking the lead), creating content exclusively for Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming “Pacific Rim” TV series is a groundbreaking project, being developed right now. This venture marks Legendary’s initial collaboration under their first-look television deal with Eric Heisserer and his Chronology banner. In this role, Heisserer will not only pen the series but also serve as an executive producer.

Back in 2013, I was introduced to the epic world of Pacific Rim through the big-screen masterpiece by Guillermo del Toro. Since then, this universe has grown exponentially, branching out into animated TV series (Pacific Rim: The Black), comic books, novels, video games, and collectible toys. In 2018, Steve S. DeKnight took the helm as writer and director for a sequel film in the franchise – Pacific Rim: Uprising.

In the first movie titled “Pacific Rim”, Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman were the main stars. They engaged in a persistent battle between humans and terrifying sea beasts. However, it seems that their victory was temporary as the struggle resumed five years later in “Uprising”. This time, John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, and Burn Gorman were part of the cast. Notably, Boyega portrayed the son of Elba’s character from the original film, while Kikuchi, Day, and Gorman returned to reprise their roles.

In my gaming world, I made my directorial and screenwriting debut with the movie “Pacific Rim: Uprising”. Before that, I was known for creating the epic “Spartacus” series on Starz.

Most recently, Heisserer held the roles of showrunner, executive producer, and writer for the Netflix fantasy series “Shadow and Bone,” a production based on Leigh Bardugo’s globally acclaimed Grishaverse novels. Prior to this, he penned the sci-fi thriller “Arrival” directed by Denis Villeneuve, which starred Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. This work earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, along with WGA and Critics’ Choice Awards in the same category. Additionally, he wrote the Netflix thriller “Bird Box,” featuring Sandra Bullock.

Notable production houses, including Television Legendary and Amazon MGM Studios, are working on a television series titled “Murdle”. This project is an adapted script from G. T. Karber’s collection of murder-mystery puzzle books. Presently, Legendary Television is engaged in the creation of several other shows such as “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” (for Apple TV+), “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” (Netflix), “Dune: Prophecy” (HBO/Max), “Drops of God”, “Vanda” (Hulu) and “You Would Do It Too” (both available on Disney+ and Apple TV+).
