As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my concerns about the ongoing delays in the release of Mahershala Ali’s highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe film, where he plays the titular character. Recently, one of the original cast members from the troubled production, Delroy Lindo, has shared some insights into his departure and the role he was initially set to play.
In a conversation with Lindo, he explained his reasons for parting ways with the Blade reboot last summer, which coincidentally occurred at the same time as Aaron Pierre’s departure from the troubled production. As per Lindo, the initial creative ideas for the remake appealed to him, but things took an unexpected turn and started going awry, causing him to shift his focus towards other projects.
When Marvel approached me, it felt like they were genuinely eager for my suggestions,” Lindo explained. “During the discussions I had with producers, screenwriters, and the director at that time, everything pointed towards a highly inclusive project. It was not just conceptually thrilling but also exciting in terms of the character development. Unfortunately, for some reason, things started to derail.
The timing of Lindo and Pierre’s exits happened to align with the opportunity for Lindo to portray an important character, reminiscent of Marcus Garvey, who held great respect within his community.
Lindo stated, “I’m not claiming he strictly followed Garveyism, but in terms of his beliefs, values, and motivations, he resembled a character like Sinners. Remarkably, much like him, this man built a Black community and led it.
Mahershala Ali and Mia Goth Are Still Attached to Blade 4
Currently, only Ali and Mahershala are confirmed for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Blade reboot, with no recent news on its production or potential release date since it lost its slot last year. The most recent gossip suggests that the director of the John Wick franchise, Chad Stahelski, is Marvel’s top choice for directing this movie, although he has other commitments such as overseeing the Highlander reboot and the upcoming John Wick 5. Meanwhile, Ali isn’t the only Sinners cast member expressing concerns about Blade 4, with the original star Delroy Lindo and Black Panther’s Michael B. Jordan expressing hope for a resolution to its production issues.
In “Sinners,” the character Lindo plays is Delta Slim, a blues musician who is a key figure in the Mississippi community where he resides. This movie, directed by someone, takes place in Mississippi during 1932 and revolves around Jordan’s main characters – twin brothers Smoke and Stack. These brothers come back to their hometown seeking a new beginning, but they soon discover that the people they encounter aren’t what they appear to be; in reality, these individuals are disguised vampires.
Alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Omar Benson Miller, Jayme Lawson, and Wunmi Mosaku, the film titled “Sinners” boasts a remarkable 97% critical approval on a renowned review platform. In its battle for box office supremacy, this Warner Bros. production squares off against another studio’s release, A Minecraft Movie.
Sinners opens in theaters on Apr. 18.
