Jewel Thief: Jaideep Ahlawat gives a humble response when asked about his comparison to Irrfan Khan: ‘Have to be on…’

As I eagerly anticipate the premiere of my upcoming caper movie, Jewel Thief, I find myself reflecting on the journey that led me here. My performances throughout the years have resonated with audiences, a fact for which I am deeply grateful. Some of my admirers even liken me to the legendary Irrfan Khan, an honor I graciously accept and view as a tremendous compliment, rather than a burden. I remain humbled by this association, and I strive to continue his cinematic legacy with the same passion and dedication he brought to every role.

When interviewed by India Today, Jaideep Ahlawat was questioned about being likened to Irrfan Khan. To this, the actor found himself momentarily speechless and inquired, “What on earth am I supposed to say?

In the depths of my adoration, I can’t help but echo his sentiments: “It’s an incredibly intimate emotion that overwhelms me. Beneath the surface, there’s a staggering weight of responsibility, almost surreal in its magnitude. To be cherished for my craft, to have someone appreciate it so profoundly—that’s a burden I carry with humility. It compels me to stay vigilant, to always be mindful of the artistry involved in filmmaking, not just acting, but every aspect of the process.

As an ardent admirer putting this into my own words, I’d say: “If I don’t venture into fresh roles, then the fans who appreciate my craft won’t have the chance to discover new realms of storytelling either.

Beyond this, when inquired about a specific genre he’s eager to delve into, Jaideep Ahlawat disclosed various areas he’d like to venture into. He opined that genres are relatively insignificant and hinted that he might be able to provide a definitive answer to that question a decade from now. At present, he views this aspect as a vast, unexplored territory ripe for discovery.

Conversely, Irrfan Khan, who departed too soon, made an indelible impact through his powerful performances in movies such as Madaari, Billu, Life of Pi, The Lunchbox, and numerous others. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 53 in 2020 following a bout with colon infection.

In my upcoming professional endeavor, I’m excited to be part of the captivating heist movie, Jewel Thief. Joining me in this thrilling journey are Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, and Nikita Dutta, each playing significant roles. Preview audiences have already been wowed by my dance sequences in the film’s first song, Jaadu, a testament to the hard work we’ve put into this project. I can’t wait for you all to see it!

Under the guidance of directors Robbie Gulati and Kookie Gulati, this upcoming movie is financed by Siddharth Anand and Mamta Anand. The planned release date for streaming on Netflix is April 28, 2025.
