Nintendo Raises Prices for Switch 2 Accessories Amid Tariff Uncertainty

Nintendo has announced a fresh U.S. pre-order date for their forthcoming Switch 2 gaming console, maintaining the same $450 price tag, however increasing costs on numerous accessory items.

Starting from April 24th, the major video game company based in Japan has announced the commencement of pre-orders, with deliveries scheduled to start as planned in June.

I’m thrilled about the news that dropped this month! Nintendo unveiled the upcoming release date for Switch 2, along with fresh Mario Kart and Donkey Kong games. It’s fascinating how these announcements came right before President Trump declared widespread tariffs affecting nations worldwide, such as Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, and China. As it stands, trade with China seems to have nearly stalled altogether.

Initially, The Switch 2 was perceived as competitively priced, considering Mario Kart World retails at $80, but there’s a bundle saving $30. However, potential tariff increases could further increase costs, leading to the company withdrawing their pre-orders.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that while the cost of consoles and games remains steady, there seems to be a shift in pricing for various accessories.

According to the company’s announcement, prices for accessories designed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 may change from what was initially revealed on April 2, due to fluctuations in market circumstances. They also mentioned that adjustments to the pricing of any Nintendo product could occur in the future, based on ongoing market conditions.

The cost for a set of two Joy-Cons is increasing by five dollars to ninety-five dollars, and the price for a pro controller is likewise going up by five dollars to eighty-five dollars. Additional accessories such as cameras or dock sets are experiencing a rise in price as well, between five and ten dollars.

Although the current price hikes aren’t significant, Nintendo’s statement hints at potential future adjustments. Given the console’s existing criticism regarding its cost, the tariffs serve as a reminder of the challenges and opportunities that businesses must address as they strive to supply their goods in this period of unpredictability.
