Anthony Mackie, who plays Captain America, can’t wait to see his team-up with the X-Men, a longtime favorite of his since high school. His film, Captain America: Brave New World, is now available for rental and purchase on PVOD. At present, Mackie is gearing up to start filming Avengers: Doomsday. This Marvel collaboration will not only involve Sam Wilson’s newly formed Avengers but also the X-Men from the 20th Century Fox films, with several beloved actors reprising their classic roles.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Mackie was asked which X-Men character he’s most eager to collaborate with post the casting announcement for Avengers: Doomsday. Mackie expressed excitement over characters like Beast, Professor X, and Nightcrawler, even joking about taking Nightcrawler to Mardi Gras. However, Mackie confessed that his top pick is none other than Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops. In fact, Mackie has been carrying a Cyclops action figure on his keychain since high school.

You know, I’m really fond of Cyclops, my preferred X-Men character. I’ve had an action figure of him on my keychain since high school, and back then, the X-Men cartoon was incredibly popular – even before the movies came out. Ever since high school, I’ve been a diehard Cyclops fan, and I can barely contain my excitement about potentially seeing him in whatever project they’re working on. If given the chance, I would love to spend time with Professor Xavier, Beast, and the rest of the gang. However, if I could pick one character to spend time with, it would be Nightcrawler – specifically during Mardi Gras in New Orleans for a fortnight.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Comes With Some Great X-Pectations

As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement as Kevin Feige has hinted that “Avengers: Doomsday” will bring together the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts*, and Wakandans to thwart Doctor Doom. What’s more, there’s a strong chance we’ll witness a clash between the Avengers and X-Men, reminiscent of the legendary 2012 comic series “Avengers vs. X-Men.” In this epic showdown, expect a fierce confrontation between Marsden’s Cyclops and Mackie’s Captain America, pitting the vibranium shield against Cyclops’ optic blast – a battle that promises to be nothing short of spectacular!

Mackie expresses his long-standing fondness for the X-Men, dating back to the time of “X-Men: The Animated Series”. This suggests the show’s immense popularity and significant impact on the X-Men brand. It appears Marvel is capitalizing on this legacy, as characters from that series, such as Cyclops, Gambit, Beast, and Professor X, play pivotal roles in “Avengers: Doomsday”. This strengthens the notion that when future casting announcements are made, it’s highly likely we’ll see the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Halle Berry as Storm.

The news that James Marsden will reprise his role as Cyclops in “Avengers: Doomsday” left many fans surprised. While Cyclops is a founding member of the X-Men and holds a significant place among the comics’ most cherished characters, previous live-action films seemed to underestimate the character by limiting his involvement in “X2: X-Men United” and swiftly writing him off in “X-Men: The Last Stand.” The animated series “X-Men ’97,” on the other hand, helped restore Cyclops’ reputation for those who knew him only from films. Here’s hoping that Marsden’s portrayal of Cyclops in “Avengers: Doomsday” will finally have its moment in the spotlight.
