YOU WON’T BELIEVE What’s Next for Bad Boys – Martin Lawrence Spills the Beans!

Martin Lawrence shares some encouraging news about the continuation of the Bad Boys movie franchise. The anniversary of the first Bad Boys film falls on April 7, 2025, marking 30 years since its release in 1995 and claiming the top spot at the box office. Following a 17-year gap after Bad Boys II, Bad Boys for Life reignited the franchise with tremendous success, and even managed to be a hit at the box office before theaters were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest installment, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, was another box office triumph, leaving fans eagerly anticipating when the fifth Bad Boys movie (perhaps titled Bad Boy 5) will debut.

In a chat with Entertainment Tonight, the topic of the potential future for the “Bad Boys” action series came up. Martin Lawrence, who portrays Marcus Burnett in the franchise, partners and close friend of Mike Lowrey, played by Will Smith, shared that they haven’t brainstormed any ideas for a fifth film yet. However, it appears that Sony Pictures might be cooking something up, as Lawrence hinted at the development of “Bad Boys 5.” He expressed that the studio is working on a new project in the series.

I hold those films particularly dear, as they represent our beginnings together – Will and I. To see four robust, thriving movies emerge from that initial spark is beyond my expectations. If the audience continues to show interest, we’ll undoubtedly have more stories to share. As for a fifth installment, it’s an idea that’s been brewing in my mind… perhaps five is the lucky number this time around. Although Will and I haven’t discussed any new ideas yet, the studio seems eager to continue our collaboration.

Can ‘Bad Boys’ Continue On Past a Fifth Film?

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I can confidently say that it’s clear the world isn’t tired of the thrilling adventures of the Bad Boys just yet! The release of “Bad Boys for Life” in January 2020 exceeded all expectations, raking in an impressive $73 million over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, making it the second-largest movie opening in January, following closely behind “American Sniper.”

Fast forward to the disappointing start of the 2024 summer movie season with “The Fall Guy,” “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” and “The Garfield Movie” all falling short, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” was a much-welcomed breath of fresh air at the box office. It managed to gross an impressive $56 million in its opening weekend!

The action film “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” brought in an impressive $193.5 million domestically and $402 million globally, all while being produced on a budget of just $100 million. This suggests that the “Bad Boys” series continues to captivate audiences, and it has proven itself as one of Sony Pictures’ most dependable and financially stable productions. Despite some doubts about whether audiences would still embrace Will Smith as a leading man after his controversial Academy Awards incident, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” demonstrated that the public remains fond of Will Smith and will show up for him when presented with the right project.

It appears that the next installment in the “Bad Boys” series, titled “Bad Boys 5,” is now a top priority for the studio, and they might not wait as long this time around, as was the case between “Bad Boys II” and “Bad Boys for Life.” What will be intriguing is how long this franchise can continue. Although the franchise has expanded its cast with actors like Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Jacob Scipio, and Paola Núñez, the success of “Bad Boys” seems to heavily rely on Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. This was evident when the television spin-off, “L.A.’s Finest,” which focused on Gabrielle Union’s character from “Bad Boys II,” was produced. Despite Jessica Alba’s star power, the series only lasted two seasons.
