In essence, Season 3 of “The Wheel of Time” drew heavily from the book “The Shadow Rising,” leaving us in suspense about what’s next for Season 4. As of April 18, 2025, it remains uncertain if Amazon Prime Video plans to renew the series for another season. Given the substantial investment they’ve made into the show, particularly with their outstanding performance in Season 3, it seems unlikely they would abandon ship after what appears to be their finest work so far. Notably, Season 3 set new standards for the show, earning an impressive 97% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a 82% approval from viewers, indicating a strong appetite for more of this captivating narrative.

Amazon’s initial two seasons featured adaptations of Robert Jordan’s first two “Wheel of Time” books, while season 3 jumped ahead to the fourth. “The Shadow Rising,” one of Jordan’s most cherished works in the series, presented some challenges during adaptation as it was combined with elements from other novels, leading to a confusing narrative progression. For instance, Perrin isn’t introduced until book five, yet his character won’t be dropped for a season, so alterations were made. It appears that season 4 may blend together material from multiple books, making it hard to anticipate the storyline.

Rand Needs To Take The Stone Of Tear And Retrieve Callandor

In the television series “The Wheel of Time,” Rand al’Thor has been confirmed as both the Dragon Reborn and the Car’a’carn of the Aiel, but there’s a crucial milestone left for him to accomplish in order to fully realize his role as the Light’s hero in the Last Battle: he must obtain his sword. The prophecy of the Dragon Reborn, or the Karaethon Cycle, foretells several tasks that Rand will have to complete to fulfill his destiny. Winning the trust of the Aiel was one such task; now, he needs to recover Callandor, his sword.

In my perspective as a movie enthusiast, Rand is on a quest to lay hands on the formidable artifact known as Callandor, reminiscent of Sakarnen, which Moiraine utilized to vanquish Lanfear in the season 3 finale. To acquire it, I’ve heard he must journey to the impregnable Stone of Tear, a citadel crafted by the Aes Sedai with the One Power. This mission forms the heart of “The Dragon Reborn,” the third book in the series, and probably the only piece of the storyline that the show will revisit. Moiraine herself hinted they now possess an army to seize it. Beyond that, Amazon’s Wheel of Time adaptation is expected to keep advancing towards other novels in the series.

In “The Fires of Heaven,” Rand al’Thor plays a pivotal part, hence it’s necessary to include him in Tear at some point during the season. However, there are other tasks he must accomplish before then, as the fifth book features numerous Aiel stories and a Forsaken that he needs to confront in battle. The complexity arises when we consider rearranging the sequence of events.

The Fires Of Heaven Is Set Up To Be The Main Focus Of Season 4

Carrying On To Book Five Seems Like The Right Path

After immersing myself in “The Shadow Rising” and moving onto season 4, it seems like we’ll delve deep into “The Fires of Heaven.” Having been introduced to Queen Morgase Trakand at the onset of season 3, fans were also acquainted with the Forsaken, albeit disguised as Lord Gaebril. The narrative in season 4 will pick up from the events in the Aiel Waste, and it appears that Rand’s journey will lead him back to the Wetlands. Here, Rahvin is expected to take center stage as the main antagonist of the season, stepping into Lanfear’s shoes. The unfolding events in the Aiel Waste might even be wrapped up in the season premiere.

In “The Fires of Heaven”, we find continuations of the storylines following the Breaking of the White Tower and the happenings in Tanchico. With Siuan Sanche’s demise, certain Aes Sedai-related narratives may be omitted from the series, but a group of Aes Sedai rebels will still arise to challenge Elaida. Moghedien, who survived the Tanchico saga, may play a significant role in these developments, and Nynaeve’s pursuit of her continues. Additionally, the Domination Bands could pave the way for storylines from “Lord of Chaos”.

The Wheel Of Time Season 4 May Include A Major Lord Of Chaos Storyline

The Red & Black Ajah Will Pursue Rand al’Thor To Gentle Or Control Him

In simpler terms, “Lord of Chaos” is the sixth book in the “Wheel of Time” series, and its events are expected to air in season 5. Previously, in the finale of season 3, the storyline known as the Breaking of the White Tower set a precedent for an important scene in “Lord of Chaos”, where Rand is chased by the Red Ajah. However, it’s worth noting that Elaida isn’t a follower of darkness, but she firmly believes that the Dragon Reborn needs to be tamed for the sake of light. Anyone who disagrees with her, in her view, is working for the Dark One.

Since Elaida now governs the White Tower, she’ll have access to additional resources that might potentially pose a threat to Rand. Intriguingly, the latest season finale has deviated from the books, suggesting that only eight Aes Sedai are needed to subdue a man, compared to thirteen in the novels. This adjustment could make it slightly easier for Rand to fend off the Red Ajah, but he must always remain vigilant when surrounded by eight or more female channelers. Given the dynamic among the Aes Sedai, this factor might play a role in season 4’s narrative.

Perrin’s Story Could Skip Ahead To Book Thirteen

I wasn’t featured in the finale of The Wheel of Time season 3, but my storyline unfolded throughout the penultimate episode instead. The season’s climax saw a surprising turn from the books, with me voluntarily surrendering myself to the Children of the Light. In The Shadow Rising, the White Cloaks breached their promise to assist in combating the Trollocs. As a result, I chose not to accompany them to face justice at that time, postponing my showdown with Dain Bornhald for later in the series’ narrative.

As a movie critic immersed in the world of “The Wheel of Time,” I eagerly anticipate how season 4 will unfold, as Perrin’s decision to join the White Cloaks propels us directly into Towers of Midnight, the thirteenth book in the series. While there are lingering matters in the Two Rivers that require his attention, given his newfound status as its unofficial lord, for now, Perrin finds himself following the lead of Dain Bornhald and his associates.
