Lost Co-Creators Carlton and Nick Cuse Are Working on a New Star Wars Series

The excitement from Star Wars Celebration may have concluded, but the buzz from a distant galaxy continues as one of the creators from Lost is now developing a new series for Disney+. Following a weekend jam-packed with updates on upcoming films and animated projects, there was a conspicuous lack of information regarding any new live-action Star Wars series at Celebration. The spotlight was primarily on Andor and Ahsoka Season 2, yet there were no updates about the progress of Skeleton Crew or perhaps a decision to revive The Acolyte. It seems Lucasfilm is secretly working on a new live-action Star Wars television project, but it might not have been ready for a grand unveiling at Celebration in Tokyo, Japan.

According to Variety, it has been announced that Carlton Cuse, who was a co-showrunner on Lost, along with his son Nick Cuse, are developing a new Star Wars series. At this point, no specifics about the series have been shared, causing fans to speculate about its potential setting in the Star Wars timeline. Notably, Nick Cuse has previously worked on shows like Bates Motel and The Strain, as well as contributing to scripts for Dwayne Johnson’s action films San Andreas and Rampage. He also collaborated with Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof on HBO series such as The Leftovers and Watchmen. This will be the first time that the father-son duo will work together on a project.

The Future of ‘Star Wars’ on Disney+

Carlton Cuse is the most recent individual associated with the hit series “Lost” to enter the realm of the “Star Wars” universe. Following in the footsteps of J.J. Abrams, who produced and directed the pilot episode of “Lost,” Abrams also directed “The Force Awakens” and “The Rise of Skywalker.” However, Damon Lindelof, initially involved in a “Star Wars” film focusing on Daisy Ridley’s character Rey, has since parted ways with the project (alongside co-writer Justin Britt-Gibson) due to creative disagreements with Lucasfilm.

It’s intriguing to note that Carlton and Nick Cuse are developing a “Star Wars” series, given the recent changes at Disney. Since Bob Iger’s return, there’s been a trend away from live-action streaming series in big franchises like “Star Wars” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a focus shifting towards feature films instead. This is why “The Mandalorian” Season 4 was replaced by a feature film titled “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” and a costly series like “The Acolyte” was canceled, while “Andor” was reduced from a five-season plan to just two. “Andor” is set to air its final season on April 22, with “Ahsoka” Season 2 scheduled for Disney+ in 2026. However, the announcement of this new series suggests that live-action “Star Wars” series won’t end with “Ahsoka” Season 2.

Lucasfilm isn’t taking a break when it comes to animated Star Wars content on Disney+. Starting May 4, 2025, we’ll see the debut of “Star Wars: Tales from the Underworld,” followed by Season 3 of “Star Wars: Visions” on October 29, 2025. In addition, “The Ninth Jedi,” an anime spin-off series inspired by a popular segment in Season 1 of “Visions,” is scheduled for release in 2026. Fans can also look forward to the debut of the Darth Maul animated series, “Maul — Shadow Lord,” which was announced at Star Wars Celebration and is expected in 2026 as well. These releases will keep fans entertained until more information surfaces about Carlton and Nick Cuse’s live-action show.
