Tarkov Dev Trolls Console Fans with Game Boy Comeback

In anticipation of Escape from Tarkov’s much-awaited 1.0 launch, Battlestate Games has made clear their position on potential console versions, but perhaps not as expected by many fans.

In a recent episode of Tarkov TV, COO Nikita Buyanov addressed the frequently asked question about whether Tarkov would be available on consoles. His answer, delivered in a playful manner, was: “Perhaps in the future, but first, we plan to launch it on Game Boy.

In a jocular manner, Buyanov clarified that console development is currently not a priority for us, using humor to avoid any misunderstanding or misconception about our current focus – a stance we have previously expressed regarding this matter.

Initially, the studio showed enthusiasm for possibly launching the game on a console, but they planned this move only after the game became available on Steam. However, as of 2025, Tarkov is yet to appear on Steam, and the primary goal now is to ensure a smooth 1.0 release.

The revised plan clearly indicates that Battlestate is preparing for the final updates prior to the full game release, with version 0.16.6.0 expected in May. In the upcoming update, you can anticipate modifications to AI actions, fine-tuning of balance settings, enhancements for the Lighthouse map, and upgrades to audio quality in the Shoreline region.

A gaming event has been arranged, and it’s anticipated that version 0.16.9.0 will be released in August. It’s possible that version 1.0 could arrive in the last three months of 2025. While Buyanov’s Game Boy remark was humorous, it hints at the studio’s actual focus areas. Rather than venturing into new gaming platforms, Battlestate appears to be concentrating on finalizing the game on PC before considering any expansions.

The idea of playing Escape from Tarkov on a Game Boy seemed utterly preposterous, yet it quickly gained traction on social media platforms, sparking conversations and jesting over the game’s absence on consoles.

The team is committed to completing the game they’ve begun, and at this point, any versions of it other than PC, whether serious or humorous, are not being considered.
