A number of X-Men characters have been uncovered by Marvel’s rival data miners, including Beast, Nightcrawler, and the brother of Magik, who goes by Colossus (also known as Piotr Rasputin).
Although it’s uncertain exactly when he’ll appear in the game, a recent sneak peek from Rivals might be the first hint of who Wolverine’s initial ‘Fastball Special’ companion is.
Shadow of the Colossus
I’m thrilled to share that NetEase has unveiled some fresh insights about the artistic approach and overall vision behind Marvel Rivals! A reliable source, @X0X_LEAK, has pointed out what appears to be concept art featuring Colossus. Here it is: [insert link or image]
Specifically, it happens at 10:47 of the released video:
In the game context, Colossus possesses the power to transform his entire body into metal and is often referred to as a Vanguard character. It’s speculated that if he becomes playable, there could be a collaboration between him and Magik, given their familial relationship. Among comic fans, however, there’s also a strong anticipation for a team-up with Wolverine.
Although an official confirmation is yet to be given about Colossus, it appears he’s one of several potential X-Men characters hinted at in the game files by data miners. Apart from him and other X-Men I’ve pointed out, there have been whispers about Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Rogue, Gambit, Jubilee, and even Deadpool (though he’s more of a rumor at this point).
A False Alarm?
Although many players are thrilled with the prospect of Colossus joining the game, one enthusiast noted that the knee depicted in the picture might merely serve as a reference and not necessarily represent an official concept design.
In other words, displaying an artist’s work-in-progress image on the screen might provide a sneak peek of how Colossus could appear in Marvel Rivals.
In a unique twist, the game has developed its own distinctive style for characters (known as the GUI Style), yet certain aspects reminiscent of traditional designs persist. For instance, elements like Magneto’s and Captain America’s helmets with their wing-like structures can be spotted in this fresh Marvel Rivals aesthetic.
Is it possible that Colossus will retain or even upgrade the knee pads from his comic book costume, or could they be developing them as a comic-themed cosmetic option? Only time will tell.
