At last, Bethesda has officially unveiled The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and fans can dive back into this beloved role-playing game immediately!
Over the past few weeks, there’s been no hiding the fact that a remake of Oblivion has been highly anticipated in the gaming world. Despite Bethesda keeping quiet about releasing an enhanced version of the 2006 original, data miners were convinced that it was about to launch, and leaked pictures seemed to confirm their suspicions.
Finally, after weeks of speculation, the long-awaited moment has come to pass, as the game mysteriously appeared online.
Bethesda shadowdrops Oblivion Remastered
On the 22nd of April, I was thrilled to learn about the unveiling of Oblivion Remastered in a live stream. The grand finale of that stream revealed that this gem is available now on Xbox Series X/S and PC! It’s priced at $50, which is a relief since most AAA titles are usually more expensive, considering Oblivion is almost two decades old.
If you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, that means good fortune for you! The game is included in the service’s collection at no additional charge.
Just as anticipated, the remake significantly revamps its Skyrim precursor in virtually all aspects, with the most striking change being the visual overhaul. The game has undergone reconstruction and now meets current graphics requirements.
This implies enhancements to lighting, textures, character designs, realism, and movements, resulting in a more stunning and engaging version of the world of Cyrodiil unlike any other previously seen.
Initially launched, Oblivion emerged as the highest-selling Elder Scrolls game so far, with approximately 9.5 million copies shipped, nearly doubling the 4 million units Morrowind managed to sell. However, it was Skyrim in 2011 that truly propelled the series into popular culture, following its astounding sale of a staggering 60 million units.
Since then, the last primary installment in the series has been released, followed by Elder Scrolls Online and several mobile game adaptations that emerged in the subsequent years.
In 2025, The Elder Scrolls V: Oblivion Remastered would be an ideal choice if you’re keen on revisiting the realm of Tamriel, as it seems that Elder Scrolls 6 might not be out for a few more years.
