Have you ever pondered why there are numerous games in app stores that resemble Clash Royale, Clash of Clans, or Hay Day? It’s because the same company, Supercell, is responsible for those names. They have a knack for developing new viral games that don’t usually last forever. If you’re curious about which ones didn’t endure the test of time, let’s examine a list of all the Supercell-developed games we’ve been fortunate enough to play so far!
Why do some Supercell games get cancelled?
Supercell is well-known for having lots of successful games, most following a specific visual theme. It’s usually easy to spot something they’ve made exactly because of that. The downside is that with so many franchises, there are also costs.
To make something function properly, you require a wide range of components, including servers, staff, and many other elements. All these necessities come with costs, and sometimes even the best ideas aren’t enough; you also need numerous investors willing to commit their time and resources to maintain its operation.
There was a Reddit post I read not long ago about this, where you can learn more about it.
In a previous video, Supercell acknowledged that to maintain four ongoing projects, they had to abandon several other potential ones.
I can’t imagine that being easy, given how many of their projects are actually really good!
Will these cancelled games come back?
While we can’t say for certain that some of these will return (
R.I.P. Boom Beach: Frontlines, you shall be missed
), that can’t be ruled out. Many developers re-release games that have seen success in the past, so we can only hope.
Instead, let’s shift our focus to today’s topic: exploring the list of Supercell-cancelled games that have been announced thus far!
- Clash Mini
- Clash Heroes
- Boom Beach: Frontlines
- Gunshine.net
- Pets vs. Orcs
- Project “Magic” – never saw the light of day
- Battle Buddies
- Smash Land
- Spooky Pop
- Rush Wars
- Hay Day Pop
- Clash Quest
- Everdale
- Floodrush
1 Rush Wars
Developer:
Supercell
Available on: iOS + Android
Find out more about Rush Wars
In other words, just like their other releases, Rush Wars failed to meet expectations right off the bat and ended up being discarded because Supercell insists on nothing less than perfection from the very beginning.
Initially, it appeared enjoyable, but since there was an element of monotony, as you might have noticed, Supercell addressed this issue by saying, “We’ve taken your suggestions about the game feeling repetitive into account and made some adjustments in a few updates. Unfortunately, these changes didn’t bring long-term improvements or significantly alter the gameplay style to make it as engaging as we aim for.
2 Hay Day Pop
Available on: iOS + Android
Find out more about Hay Day Pop
Initially, we shared news about the launch of Hay Day Pop, which unfortunately didn’t persist for long. It was intended to be a leisurely match-three puzzle game, situated within the Hay Day universe.
Initially everything seemed fine, but the developers felt that it didn’t measure up to the other popular games they have, so unfortunately, this project was also shelved.
3 Floodrush
2023 saw the unveiling of Floodrush, a game that combined popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) mechanics with battle royale elements. However, during its Beta phase, player feedback indicated significant issues, causing the developers to reconsider and revise their plans. Given the familiarity many players have with MOBA games like Wild Rift, maintaining high-stakes gameplay proved challenging.
During the beta testing phase, we scrutinized each piece of feedback and discovered numerous problems related to gameplay, controls, character interactions, or visual aesthetics, among other things. We realized that in order to maintain Supercell’s high standards, we would need to implement significant modifications, which would ultimately transform Floodrush into a product that veers quite far from our original concept.
