Sinners: The Horror Hit That Made History in a Week

Continually, Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are being celebrated as victors due to the continued success of their vampire thriller, which has been garnering both critical and box office recognition. Remarkably, this Warner Bros. production has already become one of the highest-grossing horror films ever, just a week after its premiere in theaters.

Due to earning a total of $55 million domestically since its release on April 18, the horror film “Sinners” has now entered the top 100 highest-grossing horror films in history. Currently sitting at the 100th spot, it has surpassed movies like “Insidious” and “The Black Phone” to claim its place on the list. With expectations of reaching over $100 million globally this weekend, “Sinners” may soon surpass other notable horror films such as “Saw”, “Escape Room”, and Zack Snyder’s remake of “Dawn of the Dead”.

The movie “Sinners” had a stronger-than-anticipated debut at the box office over the weekend, outperforming another Warner Bros. release and currently ranking as the second highest-grossing film of the year, surpassed only by “A Minecraft Movie”. The Memorial Day earnings placed it just behind 2017’s “It”, though achieving this impressive performance. Despite the movie’s box office success, it is suggested that it needs to earn over three times its $90 million budget in order to reach profitability.

Following my immersion in the captivating worlds of Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and Wakanda Forever, I find myself drawn to an original narrative penned by none other than Ryan Coogler – a tale that resonates deeply with his personal family history. Titled Sinners, this gripping story unfolds in the turbulent backdrop of Mississippi during the 1930s.

In the heart of this tale, I find myself as Jordan’s central characters – twin brothers, who have returned to our hometown, seeking a fresh start after enduring harrowing past experiences. However, the friendly faces we encounter upon our homecoming prove deceptive, revealing their devilish sides in unexpected ways. Confrontations between us and these vampires in disguise ensue, leading to a series of bloody encounters that test our strength, resilience, and ultimately, our humanity.

The reception for the movie “Sinners” has been incredibly favorable, earning a 98% critical rating and a 97% score on an unspecified platform. Critics are raving about Coogler’s direction in this film as well. In “Sinners“, Michael B. Jordan shares the screen with Delroy Lindo (Delta Slim), Letitia Wright (Tanisha), (Mary), Miles Caton (Sammie “Preacher Boy” Moore), Jayme Lawson (Pearline) and Wunmi Mosaku (Annie).

Sinners Is a Major Success

Despite the massive success of “Sinners” among cinema enthusiasts, you shouldn’t anticipate a follow-up. Coogler meticulously filmed his recent production using IMAX cameras, receiving guidance from Academy Award-winning director Christopher Nolan during the process of creating the movie.

Sinners is now showing in theaters across North America.
