David Harbour Was Convinced His ‘Stranger Things’ Character Would Die in Season One

David Harbour is utterly amazed that his Stranger Things character will appear in the fifth and last season.

In a recent chat with British GQ, the actor portraying Jim Hopper on the popular Netflix series revealed that after going through the scripts for the initial season (which premiered in 2016), he had a strong feeling that his character would take his own life at the end of the first part as a form of apology to his deceased daughter.

Despite not occurring initially, Hopper had plenty more to contribute in subsequent seasons as “Stranger Things” gained worldwide fame. Initially, viewers believed Hopper perished at the end of season three, following Joyce’s (Winona Ryder) act of closing the gate to the Upside Down, suggesting his character made a heroic self-sacrifice. However, Harbour acknowledges that fans might have been skeptical when Hopper reappeared in season four, alive and captive in Russia.

Harbour stated, “I believe they were deeply invested in the poignancy of his final moment. The scene was so emotionally charged that it seemed they wished he wouldn’t have survived.

With the Duffer brothers’ show set to launch its fifth and concluding season this year, Harbour hinted that his character faced no mercy when it came to intense physicality during the previous episode.

The lead actor from ‘Thunderbolts’ mentioned that we filmed numerous nights, packed with intense action, as we confront evil head-on. Character Hopper is all about action, and you’ll see him moving rapidly throughout the movie.
