Emraan Hashmi says 3-year-old son’s cancer diagnosis was ‘chaotic time’; credits wife for support during acting hiatus: ‘She is very…’

During a time when it seemed like Emraan Hashmi was constantly appearing in films, there was a brief hiatus that left fans curious and puzzled. Recently, the actor has shared insights into the reasons behind this break. In an open conversation on Humans of Bombay’s YouTube channel, Emraan looked back at one of the most challenging periods in his life: the diagnosis of his son, Ayaan, with cancer.

Emraan reminisced about a tumultuous period in everyone’s lives. During that time, Ayaan was merely three years old. There were no apparent signs, and then one day the shocking news arrived: Ayaan had cancer. It was an ongoing struggle, but fortunately, his family and friends served as a sturdy support system, with his wife being particularly crucial. With this challenge, Emraan decided to pause his work. He didn’t hesitate for a moment. The films could wait; what mattered most was his family.

During busy times when Emraan found himself juggling duties as a father, husband, and actor, it was his wife, Parveen Shahani, who admirably managed the home front. “My wife served as an incredible pillar of support, despite her own challenges. I had to leave for film shoots, but my wife stood strong at home. Her resilience is remarkable, and our bond grew even stronger due to this experience.

Besides her husband’s resilience, Ayaan also played an essential role in their journey. Despite undergoing chemotherapy, Emraan noted that his son managed to make the most of each day, never letting his treatment overshadow it. “He would quickly finish his treatment and be back playing again,” he revealed. “Children are unique. They don’t brood like adults do.

Reflecting on the past, Emraan admits that taking a break might have temporarily halted his career progression in the film industry. However, he firmly believes that he wouldn’t alter anything about his choices. Now, having returned to the limelight, Emraan Hashmi is gearing up for his comeback with the upcoming movie, Ground Zero, where he portrays the character of a BSF officer named Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey. This film is scheduled to hit theatres on April 25, 2025. Among Emraan Hashmi’s notable Hindi films are Jannat, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Raaz, The Dirty Picture, and several others.
