Stephen Graham’s four-episode Netflix drama “Adolescence,” which debuted on March 14, garnered significant success and received applause from critics. Prior to this, Anurag Kashyap had pointed out that a series like this might be rejected in India. More recently, Emraan Hashmi, who was last seen in “Ground Zero,” expressed his thoughts by stating that producing such a show within the Indian context would pose a substantial challenge or “logistical nightmare.
During an interview with News18, Emraan Hashmi revealed insights about Adolescence and emphasized that its success stemmed from its compelling theme – the challenges of navigating life during the social media era. Moreover, he mentioned that this project was a daring endeavor, considering that it consisted of only four episodes, each recorded in a single continuous take, making it an audacious creative wager.
He also discussed potential reactions to the project in India, stating that many producers would probably dismiss it immediately. In other words, presenting an idea like this here might lead to responses such as “You’ve lost your mind!” from about nine out of ten producers. He further mentioned that it would be a significant challenge logistically speaking.
The lead actor from Ground Zero underscored the significant hurdles in film production, explaining that any minor error during an extended scene could necessitate a full reshoot, escalating costs significantly. He further stated that such a project would require a bold and somewhat unorthodox director, one who is prepared to take substantial creative risks.
Previously, I, as a fervent admirer, observed Anurag Kashyap expressing his discontent on social media about an OTT platform’s lack of courage to support daring content. He suggested that a series like “Adolescence” might be dismissed if pitched in India, highlighting the platform’s perceived insecurity and hypocrisy. In contrast, he emphasized international acclaim for such risk-taking productions.
On April 25, 2025, Emraan Hashmi’s action-filled thriller titled Ground Zero debuted in cinemas. Based on true incidents, the film portrays Hashmi as BSF Deputy Commandant Narendra Nath Dubey.
