Anna Kendrick’s Heart-Stopping Return in ‘The Accountant 3’?

Nine years following the debut of the initial movie, Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal teamed up once more for a buddy action film. While many original cast members reappeared in the sequel, Anna Kendrick did not make another appearance.

In the 2016 action movie, Kendrick portrayed Dan Cummings, a character who was an accountant alongside Affleck’s Christian Wolff. Yet, she didn’t reappear in the sequel, although their characters shared romantic ties. During a conversation with , director Gavin O’Connor hinted that plans for The Accountant 3 are underway and that Kendrick might be open to reprising her role.

Affleck casually hinted that he’s eagerly waiting for an outstanding screenplay before moving forward with a potential third installation.

Director Gavin O’Connor disclosed that he and screenwriter Bill Dubuque discussed the prospect and have had initial discussions. On a personal note, I find myself steering away from another puzzle-based film as we’ve already tackled it on two occasions now.

He added, “A topic we’ve discussed is potentially reintroducing Anna Kendrick, who played his romantic interest in the initial film. Perhaps it’s time for Christian to find the love he truly deserves.

Ben mentioned that he’s hoping for her affection still. In response, O’Connor shared, “Ben, as a matter of fact, she and I have been exchanging messages. She explicitly stated that she’s completely on board if we proceed.

Although Christian had a romantic relationship with Dana, it was made clear to everyone involved that the main focus of the sequel was on developing the brothers’ relationship and the emotional bond between them. This was the original plan all along, so Dana was never going to feature in the second movie.

The movie has been well-received, with a 78% rating from critics and an equally impressive score on Rotten Tomatoes, earning the Certified Fresh and Verified Hot badge. Additionally, it garnered an A- grade from CinemaScore.

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I’m thrilling at the prospect of The Accountant 2, produced by Amazon MGM Studios. It’s anticipated to debut in second place during its opening weekend, potentially raking in three days’ worth between $20 million and $25 million. Yet, with a hefty budget of $80 million, the on-screen chemistry between Affleck and Bernthal needs to significantly improve to generate enough revenue for a potential The Accountant 3.

Anna Kendrick Has a Different Sequel Coming Up

Despite not being featured in this year’s “The Accountant 2”, the Academy Award-nominated actress does have a follow-up movie in the pipeline. analogous to “The Accountant 2”, Kendrick debuted at the South by Southwest Festival in early March, which is a continuation of her 2016 dark comedy thriller “A Simple Favor”.

In the follow-up, Kendrick once again stepped into the shoes of Stephanie Smothers, previously known as the vlogging mom turned successful writer. She shares the screen with Blake Lively, who is back as Emily Nelson. The sequel amplifies the tension and adds a touch of glamour by shifting the setting to the breathtaking landscapes of Italy. After its premiere at SXSW, it has garnered positive feedback and will be available on Prime Video starting May 1.

The Accountant 2 is currently in theaters.
