Nawazuddin Siddiqui transitioned from playing bit parts to leading roles in movies such as Gangs of Wasseypur, Raman Raghav 2.0, Manto and others. However, even while working within the Hindi film industry, he has experienced discrimination from producers. In an interview with Mid-Day, the actor who starred in Haddi was asked if the industry does not trust actors who do not fit its conventional notion of what a hero should look like.
In simple terms, Siddiqui expressed his opinion that internationally, acting talent is valued more than physical appearance when casting films, whereas in Bollywood, talented actors often find themselves relegated to minor roles.
The actor pointed out that despite their remarkable talents, individuals such as Irrfan Khan, Manoj Bajpayee, and Naseeruddin Shah are often overlooked when it comes to leading roles in big-budget films. Speaking about the issue, he said, “Their brilliance may outlast us, but the industry might not always recognize or capitalize on it.
In simpler terms, Nawazuddin Said, “People often call them great actors and shower praise, but it seems no one has given them a major role in a film yet. When discussing actors who have ‘hero’ status, he questioned, ‘But what are the ones we trust actually doing? We can see that the films coming out lately with new faces aren’t exactly shining.’
In terms of his professional life, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is scheduled to appear next in a biographical crime drama movie titled “Costao”. This film, helmed by Sejal Shah, is slated for release on streaming platform Zee5 on May 1, 2025.
