Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is set to pull off something extraordinary, with the potential for the entire Dragon Ball Daima series to serve as downloadable content. The game promises a rich array of characters, locations, and combat moves reminiscent of the anime, making it hard to believe that this isn’t an entirely new game given all the modifications in store.
Since it appears that Kakarot’s DLC is wrapping up, we can’t help but wish for a comprehensive video game adaptation of the original Dragon Ball. Just as fans long for a game that delves into Naruto’s youthful escapades, contemporary games seem to overlook the mischievous antics of young Goku.
The last instance of Dragon Ball being featured in a video game was through Kakarot. In the 23rd World Tournament DLC expansion, players got to momentarily control young Goku during his intense battle against King Piccolo. This came as a delightful surprise because most believed this DLC would only focus on Teen/Adult Goku’s fights in that specific arc.
Subsequently, it’s been unfortunate that no game has depicted Goku’s initial adventures as a child, which we haven’t encountered since then.
On the DS, GBA, and Wii, we have games based on the initial Dragon Ball series, yet these consoles are seldom used by many nowadays. While it’s possible to acquire retro systems for a taste, generally speaking, this significant aspect of the franchise often goes overlooked. It’s unfortunate because the original saga is among the funniest and most endearing shonen ever created.
Instead of perceiving Dragon Ball as merely a series characterized by beam battles, shouting, and combat, we believe introducing a game based on the original saga could offer a fresh perspective. While there’s no denying the fighting element, it’s also interspersed with numerous humorous gags and breathtaking backdrops. Although some Bulma-related humor might be overlooked in these games, they can find innovative methods to circumvent that issue.
By incorporating this narrative, we can delve deeper into the backstories of secondary characters like Krillin and Yamcha, revealing their unique bonds with Goku and Bulma respectively. Additionally, we might uncover the circumstances that led Tien to become one of Goku’s former foes-turned-friends, as their epic battle in both the anime and manga series will come alive.

In addition to his character traits, concentrating on a younger Goku could result in more skill-based gameplay rather than constant button mashing. While we at Gfinity enjoy a good button-mashing session, the vibrant environments of the original Dragon Ball offer opportunities for platforming and flying challenges, as well as other features. Of course, fighting will still be the primary focus, but introducing some variety would set it apart from Dragon Ball Z.
Could we create a video game that truly honors Akira Toriyama’s original Dragon Ball? As a minimum, we should consider remastering Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure.
