Tom Hardy’s ‘Warrior’ TV Spinoff Struggles to Find a Home Despite High Hopes

2011 film “Warrior” is slated for a continuation as a TV series, but there’s uncertainty about whether it will actually be produced due to difficulties in finding a suitable platform for streaming.

In a recent interview with , director Gavin O’Connor discussed his latest movie, “Warrior,” which he helmed. Unfortunately, despite initial plans to create a sequel or spin-off of “Warrior” exclusively for Paramount+, the deal fell apart for unknown reasons. The project seemed to have found new life when Max executives showed interest, but even this series, titled “Warriors,” ultimately faced cancellation. Despite O’Connor’s strong enthusiasm for “Warriors,” it remains uncertain whether the series will ever come to fruition, as it now hinges on whether any other streaming platforms decide to step in for a potential third rescue that proves successful.

Originally, it was on Paramount+ where we established it, he mentioned. However, for some unknown reason, they opted to take a different path. I can’t fathom why this change occurred. Yet, at that point, I had written a script, which offers a strong representation of what the series is intended to be. It introduces all the characters, except for one.

The Warrior Sequel Series Was Abandoned Twice by Streamers

He commented, “HBO Max initially expressed interest and we shifted towards HBO Max. However, for some unknown reason, they opted against it. They were pursuing a different path. Consequently, I’m on the hunt for a new platform. Apart from the film ‘Warrior,’ there has never been a project closer to my heart than this TV series. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can find an ideal home for it.

Apart from discussing the details of Warriors, O’Connor also elaborated on the idea behind it. Essentially, there will be four combatants – two men and two women – who are destined to engage in a fight, further emphasizing the original film’s focus on the lead-up to a confrontation between brothers. O’Connor believes that this series could stand out due to its distinctiveness compared to other TV or streaming shows currently available.

In the movie Warrior, the story revolves around two brothers who are destined to clash in the Sparta tournament. Given this concept of four characters – two men and two women – we titled our series Warriors. Each character is a fighter, but what sets us apart is delving into their personal struggles outside the cage. Our goal is to unfold their stories as they approach their inevitable confrontation at Sparta. Essentially, we’re creating an engaging drama that showcases these characters’ lives and their battles both inside and out of the ring. This unique concept is unlike anything currently on TV, so I hope a network can recognize its potential and provide us with a platform.

Havoc is now playing in theaters, while Warrior is currently streaming on Peacock.
