A distinguished panel of talent is set to come together for this year’s international jury at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Among them are actors such as Halle Berry, Jeremy Strong, and Alba Rohrwacher; renowned auteur directors like Hong Sangsoo, Payal Kapadia, and Carlos Reygadas; celebrated French-Moroccan author Leïla Slimani; Congolese documentarian Dieudo Hamadi; and the esteemed Juliette Binoche, a previous Oscar winner.
A group of well-known actors, directors, writers, and filmmakers will join forces with Juliette Binoche (who has won an Oscar) to judge films at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
The group will pick the winners of this year’s Palme d’Or for best film.
Following their successful 2024 outing at Cannes, where the American actor shone as Roy Cohn in ‘The Apprentice’, a role that secured him a best-supporting Oscar nomination this year, and the debut of the Indian director’s film, ‘All We Imagine As Light‘, winning the Grand Prix at the festival, they are back in Cannes.
Rohrwacher and Reygadas are frequent attendees at the Cannes Film Festival. The Italian actress has showcased multiple films in the Competition section, including the 2014 Grand Prix winner “The Wonders,” “Happy as Lazzaro” in 2018, and “La Chimera” in 2023, all directed by her sister Alice Rohrwacher. On the other hand, the Mexican director has been recognized with a Camera d’Or honor for best first feature at Cannes in 2002 with “Japón,” and has returned to the festival with “Battle in Heaven” (2005), the Jury Prize winner from 2007, “Silent Light,” and “Post Tenebras Lux” in 2012, which earned him the Cannes award for best director.
2020 saw me showcase my movie “Downstream to Kinshasa” in the prestigious Cannes official selection. Slimani, a highly praised author, is famously recognized for her chilling psychological thriller “Chanson douce,” which earned France’s coveted Prix Goncourt award.
4 decades after making her debut at Cannes with André Téchiné’s “Rendez-vous” in 1985, Juliette Binoche has become a frequent attendee of the festival, gracing the Croisette with films such as Krzysztof Kieślowski’s “Three Colors: Red”, Michael Haneke’s “Caché”, Claire Denis’ “Let the Sunshine In”, and Anh Hung Tran’s “The Taste of Things”. She was awarded Best Actress at Cannes in 2010 for her role as an antiques dealer in Abbas Kiarostami’s “Certified Copy”. Now, Juliette Binoche succeeds Greta Gerwig, the director of “Barbie”, as the festival’s president.
The 78th Cannes International Film Festival runs May 13 – 24.
