“Last week, ‘Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat’s Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins’ premiered on April 25th. This heist movie is all about the hunt for a Rs. 500 crore gem called Red Sun. Rajan Aulakh, played by Jaideep Ahlawat, hires Rehan Roy, played by Saif Ali Khan, to steal the gem. However, they both end up competing against each other instead of teaming up. In the end, we see who walks away with the Red Sun.
Following their initial unsuccessful attempt at stealing the Red Sun, Rehan seeks a second chance from Rajan. On this occasion, they plan to execute the heist within a commercial aircraft – specifically, the flight from Mumbai to London, where Prince Gamunu (Peter Muxka Manuel) of Africa and the Red Sun are both passengers.
As Rehan seizes control of the private aircraft, Rehan, Rajan, Farah (portrayed by Nikita Dutta), and Salim Misty (played by Shaji Chaudhary) find themselves on the same flight and forcefully command the pilot to touch down in Istanbul. Rehan and Rajan manage to elude Inspector Vikram Patel (Kunal Kapoor) and the Turkish law enforcement, making their escape via a tunnel, and retrieve the gem from its secure safe.
Following this, Rajan doesn’t just give the precious stone to a dangerous criminal who finds a prospective purchaser, but also chooses to sever his alliance with Rehan by taking his life. However, the movie manages to maintain the viewers’ interest as yet another unexpected twist is about to unfold.
In a different phrasing,
Rehan goes to see Rajan and asks him to officially transfer documents that Rehan had used for blackmail against his father and brother, promising them relief from their financial troubles. However, Rajan intends to murder Rehan, but instead, Rehan manages to poison Salim before Rajan can act.
After confessing to Rajan that the Red Sun he had given to Moosa was a forgery and keeping the genuine jewel, Rehan and Rajan engage in a fierce brawl. Rehan emerges victorious from the fight and escapes safely. Simultaneously, Moosa and his gang confront Rajan, but Rajan retaliates by exploding the mansion using a cigarette that belonged to Rehan, which ultimately leads to both Moosa’s and his own demise.
In the closing moments of the movie, Rehan takes the Red Sun artifact from London and escapes to Florence, all while Farah is already plotting their next crime. Vikram persists in pursuit, but they manage to disappear, creating anticipation for a possible follow-up called The Heist Continues.
Jewel Thief is currently streaming on Netflix.
