UTA’s Curtis Brown Sells Cuba Pictures to Vice Media

Vice Media has picked up McMafia producer Cuba Pictures from UTA’s Curtis Brown Group.

The specifics of the agreement were kept confidential, but the U.K. film and television production company, Cuba Pictures, is set to join Vice Studios in a move aimed at strengthening their scripted TV production sector. Dixie Linder, the current head of film and TV at Cuba Pictures, will retain her position and report directly to Vice Studios’ co-president, Jamie Hall.

The details about the agreement weren’t shared, but a U.K. movie and TV company called Cuba Pictures is joining forces with Vice Studios to improve their scripted TV business. Dixie Linder, who currently runs Cuba Pictures, will continue to do so and report to Jamie Hall at Vice Studios.

Bruce Dixon, CEO of Vice Media, made a statement praising the innovative programs created by Cuba Pictures that attract audiences worldwide. He also noted that this acquisition will speed up our studios’ plans to expand in scripted content production.

Nick Marston, founder of Cuba Pictures, will continue to be involved with the company as he collaborates closely with the Vice Studios team. The acquisition of Cuba Pictures is the latest move by Vice Media, who have recently signed a distribution deal with ITV Studios and purchased London Alley Entertainment, a commercial and music video production studio. This studio was then merged with Pulse Films based in the UK.

Cuba Pictures has been recognized in TV credits for shows like Channel Four’s “Coalition,” BBC One’s “Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell,” the joint production of BBC Two and RTÉ titled “Paula,” as well as the series “McMafia” that aired on both BBC1 and Amazon Prime, with James Norton in the starring role.

Cuba Pictures is currently developing the dramatic series titled “The Walsh Sisters“, based on the novels by Marian Keyes and scheduled for broadcast on both BBC and RTE. Notably, Vice Media is a company controlled by Fortress Investment Group, Soros Capital Management, and Monroe Capital.
