Joseph Kosinski, who recently achieved success with the blockbuster film “Top Gun: Maverick,” earning $1.49 billion, is now set to take on a new project. Reports from The Hollywood Reporter indicate that he will be directing a movie adaptation of “Miami Vice” for Universal Pictures.
The screenplay for the movie “Nightcrawler” is being written by its director, Dan Gilroy. Dylan Clark, producer of “The Batman”, will produce this film through his company Dylan Clark Productions, while Andrzej Kosinski will produce it via Monolith.
The show “Miami Vice” initially emerged as an anthony Yerkovich-conceived TV series, featuring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas portraying two undercover Miami police officers with a penchant for pastel suits. As executive producer Michael Mann explained last year to THR, the aim of the show was to shatter the mold of everything that had gone before it, running from 1984-1990. More recently, in a 2006 film adaptation titled the same, Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell took on the roles, with Michael Mann directing. This movie grossed approximately $163.7 million worldwide.
Kosinski has been exploring the details of the project since last year, but “Miami Vice” is not his forthcoming directorial endeavor. Instead, with his packed schedule, he’s working on a UFO conspiracy thriller that Apple secured in a bidding war in March. His next release, the Brad Pitt racing drama titled “F1,” is scheduled for June.
After directing movies like Oblivion and Tron: Legacy, Kosinski has become a highly sought-after filmmaker within the industry. Agencies such as Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Untitled, and Sloane Offer represent him.
As a die-hard admirer, I’m excited to share that I, myself, am associated with the creative genius behind projects like “The Bourne Legacy” and collaborations on my brother Tony Gilroy’s “Andor”. Represented by powerhouses such as Creative Artists Agency (CAA), LBI, and Howard Abrahamson, I’m privileged to be part of this incredible team.
Clark, famed for his roles in Matt Reeves’ “Planet of the Apes” series and Kosinski’s “Oblivion”, is managed by both CAA and 42West.
