Designer Luiz Solano recently revealed the revamp of an apartment situated within the Araucária Building, a structure from the 1960s constructed by architect Rino Levi, in São Paulo.
By eliminating the partitioning walls, the spacious area now echoes the rugged Brutalist style of the antique building, yet exudes a cozy, contemporary ambiance through modern elements. Originally, the apartment was sectioned into three distinct zones; however, Solano demolished the internal brickwork, retaining only functional wardrobes as dividers.
In this central living area, you’ll find a kitchen island, an elevated garden box, and the building’s air vents, all enclosed in chrome casings. To contrast the strong material choice, the ceiling features stepped beams of rough concrete. Moreover, the floors, painted a soft white, aid in reflecting light and highlighting the silver accents throughout the spacious room.
The closets are painted a cozy green hue, linking the indoor spaces to the greenery surrounding the development and the flourishing plant life in the raised planter. The style of the furniture and decorations continues this natural theme, with a substantial marble dining table and an area rug featuring a multi-colored lichen design adding flowing textures.
