This past week in video gaming brought a mix of exciting peaks and disappointing valleys. There were fresh game launches, unexpected early releases, pre-ordering hassles, and a whole lot more. All in all, it’s been a bustling and eventful week.
Nintendo Switch 2 preorders
If you’re like me, you were juggling multiple tabs on Wednesday night at 11:58pm EST, hoping to secure a preorder for the Nintendo Switch 2. Major retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, and Target started their preorders at midnight, while GameStop was set to begin at 11am (or whenever your local store opened its doors).
Spontaneously, a commotion broke loose. As soon as I hit refresh at midnight, Target informed me it was all sold out. Walmart placed me in a checkout line (which turned out to be advantageous!). Meanwhile, Best Buy displayed “coming soon” on every Switch 2 and package until approximately 12:45 am.
If, like me, you managed to secure a preorder, it’s natural to worry about potential cancellation notices from the store. However, for the moment, let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best as everything proceeds smoothly!
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake
Absolutely, we’ve been discussing this topic for some time, and it was part of our previous week’s broadcast as well. However, it’s now officially here! Bethesda surprise-released it on Tuesday during their announcement. It’s visually stunning, retaining the quirks you’re familiar with from Oblivion. Despite feeling somewhat dated due to its age, there’s an undeniable charm in revisiting that universe.
There have been some enhancements to the overall user experience. The combat, while improved, still has a bit of stiffness and feels quite old-school. However, the graphics have seen significant upgrades, and the user interface has been significantly overhauled. If you’re new to this game or if your gaming experience has primarily revolved around Skyrim, you might find it somewhat familiar yet distinct enough to make diving into it an exciting prospect.
Subnautica 2 Dev Vlog
The creators of Subnautica, Unknown Worlds, have shared their initial vlog for Subnautica 2, offering a peek at what we can expect from this upcoming sequel. We got a glimpse of the game’s graphics, multiplayer cooperative mode, and the stunning new alien world that looks truly captivating. Design lead Anthony Gallegos noted that this is merely the beginning, with Early Access slated for later in the year. Given how much I loved the original Subnautica, I’m eagerly anticipating diving into its sequel.
Confirmed release dates!
Last week, we had two games give us their official release dates!
The game known as “Ghost of Yōtei” is the initial high-profile title setting a fourth quarter release date potentially competing against “Grand Theft Auto VI.” This follow-up is scheduled for launch on PlayStation 5 on October 2nd. Additionally, they unveiled a fresh trailer titled “The Onryō’s List,” offering additional insights into the background and history of our main character, Atsu.
Similarly, Remedy Entertainment has been generously providing us with a wealth of details regarding FBC: Firebreak, an extraordinary title that stands apart from their past creations (yet continuing the madness of Control). Our curiosity is certainly piqued by this upcoming multiplayer PvE game.
FBC: Firebreak releases on June 17 for $49.99 on all systems (not Nintendo Switch… yet).
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 release
My spouse has been eagerly anticipating
If you’d like more detailed information (in case you’re still uncertain about it, unlike my husband who was immediately convinced after seeing the reveal trailer), you might want to explore Gameranx’s ‘Before You Buy’ review.
