Renowned actor Alex Wolff has collaborated with some of the most prominent directors active today, such as Ari Aster (of “Hereditary”) and Christopher Nolan (upcoming “Oppenheimer”). Following his own directorial debut in 2019’s “The Cat and the Moon,” Wolff is currently working on another project titled “If She Burns.” This upcoming film boasts up-and-coming talents like Justice Smith (“I Saw the TV Glow”). While promoting his latest comedy, “Magic Farm” directed by Amalia Ulman (“El Planeta”) and featuring Chloë Sevigny, Wolff shared some insights about his forthcoming project and its connection to his recent film release.
As a movie enthusiast, watching “Magic Farm” significantly broadened my perspective on filmmaking, particularly Amalia’s unique approach to shooting scenes and capturing culture. Her dedication was truly inspiring, and I absorbed an immense amount from her artistic freedom. She taught me that the key to authenticity lies in having a keen eye for location, which is why I believe “Magic Farm” feels so genuine – it’s all thanks to Amalia’s presence.
When scouting locations for my own film, I found myself instinctively drawn to certain sections, not just because they matched what was planned in my head or the script, but because they offered an authentic, tactile feel that would enrich the story. I can hardly wait to start production, and I’m confident the actors will deliver outstanding performances.
Wolff also revealed that his new film begins shooting this summer:
We’re figuring out everyone’s availability right now. However, Victoria Pedretti, who is quickly becoming one of the most promising young actresses in our industry, possesses an enigmatic charm reminiscent of stars like Chloë Sevigny and some Swedish actors from the ’50s. Her performances feel intimate and unassuming, as if you’re privy to a private moment that’s both intensely vulnerable and captivating. I believe she truly embodies this quality. Moreover, Asa Butterfield and Justice Smith are both exceptional talents, and I consider myself fortunate to be working with them.
The “Seduction” of ‘Magic Farm’
In my perspective, during our interview for Wolff’s “Magic Farm,” co-star Sevigny shared insights on the harmony among the cast, a harmony that was evident in each of our unique performances. She explained that it all began during pre-production when we started to cross paths at events I hosted and casually interacted off-set. As she put it, “We were kind of feeling each other out.”
Luckily, we clicked almost instantly, like a house on fire. It was an incredible experience making this film with such a talented group. We were all fans of “El Planeta” and wanted to support Amalia, offering our full support and giving our best to elevate this extraordinary artist.
