CBS Pushes ‘Einstein’ Drama Back a Year to 2026-27

CBS has determined that there isn’t enough space for the newly acquired procedural series, “Einstein,” in the upcoming television schedule.

Last week, it was announced that a series order had been given for a show featuring Matthew Gray Gubler, former star of Criminal Minds, portraying the great-grandson of the renowned physicist Einstein. However, when CBS was arranging their schedule for the 2025-26 season, they found that there wasn’t enough room to accommodate Einstein in their lineup.

It seems that moving the series to the 2026-27 season was considered a straightforward choice from that point on.

Last week, CBS commissioned two new series, one of them being centered around Einstein. The other, a comedic series about a workplace named DMV, is still set for the upcoming season. Next year, CBS will add three additional dramas to their lineup, all derived from existing or recently concluded shows. These include Boston Blue, a spinoff of Blue Bloods that follows Donnie Wahlberg’s character, Danny Reagan, to a new location; CIA, which takes place in the same fictional universe as FBI; and Sheriff Country, a spinoff of Fire Country that CBS approved over a year ago.

In addition to renewing a dozen scripted shows, CBS has planned to air popular reality series like Survivor and The Amazing Race, as well as a fresh music competition titled The Road, during the upcoming season.

As a passionate admirer, I’d like to share my excitement about a series, aptly named “Einstein,” which is inspired by German origins. It revolves around me, Lewis Einstein, portrayed brilliantly by Gubler, who happens to be the directionless great-grandson of Albert Einstein. I’m a professor at Princeton with a knack for getting into legal troubles. However, my life takes an unexpected turn when I find myself assisting a detective, brilliantly played by Rosa Salazar, in solving her most intricate and perplexing cases.

CBS Studios is currently working on a series titled “Einstein”. The American version was created by Andy Breckman, who is also serving as executive producer alongside director and fellow alumnus from the show “Monk”, Randy Zisk, Tariq Jalil, and Rose Hughes. Additionally, Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia and Laura Beetz of Seven One Studios International are involved in this production.

On May 7th, CBS is set to unveil its schedule for the years 2025-2026. To stay updated on any new series orders, renewals, or cancellations, follow THR’s network scorecard.
