‘Billion Dollar Spy’ Enlists Tony Goldwyn, Rufus Sewell and Justin Theroux

I’m thrilled to share that three more talented actors have signed on for the Cold War thriller “Billion Dollar Spy,” where Russell Crowe leads the pack. Tony Goldwyn, Rufus Sewell, and Justin Theroux are the newest additions to our ensemble, bringing their skills to life in the true story of CIA asset Adolf Tolkachev.

In this production, Crowe takes on the role of Tolkachev, a man who lost faith in the Soviet government and leaked vast amounts of classified information to the U.S. His image remains at CIA headquarters as the sole non-American to receive such an honor. Harry Lawtey plays the part of Tolkachev’s CIA contact, while Vera Farmiga and Willa Fitzgerald are also featured in the cast.

Goldwyn is set to assume the role of CIA agent Burton Gerber, a position previously held by Rufus Sewell as the head of the CIA Moscow Bureau, Gus Hathaway. Jason Theroux will take over from Crowe as CIA officer Van Spencer, and Tennyson Crowe, the real-life son of Russell Crowe, will portray Sasha Tolkachev, who is Crowe’s character’s onscreen son.

Amma Asante takes the helm with a screenplay penned by Ben August and Stephen Gaghan, inspired by David E. Hoffman’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.

The project underway is being spearheaded by Walden Media and Weed Road Pictures, with filming taking place in Budapest, Hungary at present. Frank Smith, Benjamin Tappan, and Cher Hawrysh from Walden Media are overseeing production, while Akiva Goldsman and Greg Lessans from Weed Road Pictures are also involved.

1) Goldwyn, Sewell, and Theroux are each managed by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), along with Untitled and Schreck Rose for Goldwyn, Julian Belfrage Associates and Jackoway Austin for Sewell, and Lighthouse Management & Media and Felker Toczek for Theroux. Lastly, Tennyson Crowe is represented by George Freeman at Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
