Jack Black Sets New Billboard Hot 100 Record With ‘Minecraft Movie’ Song ‘Steve’s Lava Chicken’

“Steve’s Lava Chicken” is tasty as hell — and a charting song on the Hot 100.

Despite being just 34 seconds long, Jack Black’s latest tune from “A Minecraft Movie” has managed to break into the Billboard Hot 100 following its viral popularity on TikTok this month. The catchy track “Steve’s Lava Chicken” entered the chart at No. 78, marking a record for the shortest song ever to make it onto the Hot 100.

The song contains only a few lines penned by Black and director Jared Hess, in which their character expresses his fondness for chicken dipped in fiery magma. Lyrics include: “La-la-la-lava, ch-ch-ch-chicken / Steve’s Lava Chicken, it’s heavenly delicious / Ooh, darling, you’re making the phone ring / Now you’re indulging in a tasty treat / Ooh, scorching spicy, it’s an explosive attack,” sung to a catchy, modern beat.

It’s not a new occurrence that the star of School of Rock has made it onto the Hot 100 with a catchy tune from a movie based on a video game, which became popular as a meme. Specifically, his song “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie entered at No. 56 in late April 2023 and remained on the chart for five consecutive weeks.

Prior to “Steve’s Lava Chicken” igniting the Billboard Hot 100, it was “Beautiful Trip,” a song by Kid Cudi in 2020, that previously held the record for the shortest track on the chart.

The film titled “A Minecraft Movie” features Black and Jason Momoa in a real-life interpretation of the popular Minecraft video game. This movie has already generated $815 million at the worldwide box office, causing some stir among fans who have been seen enthusiastically expressing themselves in cinemas. Despite the controversy, it’s clear that Minecraft has triumphed, a fact underscored by “Steve’s Lava Chicken” climbing the charts.
